Hi everyone, me again with questions.

Let start with tank specs.

30G 29x16x12
Prizm skimmer rated for 40G
28lbs of live rock
2.5-2in sand bed
Got 3 medium mesh bags of porous rock for bacteria growth.
Two wave makers on each end for medium overall flow.

Inhabitants are as follows

Pair of oc clownfish one is about 1in and the female one is about 2.5-3in both hosting their own bubble tip anemone.

Spotted sand sifting goby about 3in long

Six line wrasse about 1.5in

I have a pj cardinal that will be going to a friend tomorrow.

Inverts are as follows

One cleaner shrimp
6 hermit crabs small sized
3 astrea snails

I lost my coral beauty to an infection a while back and I've been monitoring my tank to make sure there isn't anything else infected.

Looks like my water level is great as of now no nitrate or nitrite and also no ammonia. PH is slightly lower than 8.5.

Looking for a new fish to add. Any suggestions? I like something that's a bit more active, but won't fight with my clowns or sandsifting goby. And maybe not a coral beauty as I already lost one.

Let me hear what you got and I can compare with what I have researched so far.

Thank you for all the contributions!

Just for good measure, hold off until after the new year! :) Maybe add a new coral instead?

Well, I can't help but to spit out "go slow(er)" advice....so yeah I think so. But it's not a political issue....just a "good idea". Like flossing your teeth. :D

Besides, what do you have against a new coral??? ;)

If your tank just "ate a coral beauty" you'll never, ever, ever see that firefish. They hide even when they aren't being chased.

Awesome fish though! Beautiful.

Scroll coral.
Yellow polyps.

Nobody ever says those... ;)
I beat my temptation and got myself some yellow polyps and a small rock with about 10 mushrooms on them!

I have just moved the pj cardinal to my friends tank and now I left with four fish and lots of room.

My LFS has a baby fire angelfish wondering g what you thought of them?

Thanks!

Nice! I think a flame angel would be similar to your coral beauty....maybe a similar propensity to ignore clownfish territories, but that's guessing a little. You might have to dedicate one or two 24/7 surveillance sessions to assure his well being. ;)

I'm surprised that you haven't had problems with the six line. They can and will become aggressive overtime, especially with very passive fish.
They do well in a mature tank and fed well to keep them from becoming overly aggressive.

You have a small tank and looks to be rather new set up. I would trade the six line in at your LFS and stick with small fish. Fire fish, chalk bass ........

After all this I had totally glanced over the sixline in the original post.

I don't know if I could rule him out as a suspect – coral beauties are not remotely "very passive". ;) But at least in my experience Sixlines have been cryptic sleepers at night...and if I recall correctly that's when you saw the damage happening. "Shouldn't" be the sixline.

Not saying the sixline harmed the coral beauty, but could have harassed it if the beauty was introduced after the sixline. Op would know if it was chasing it.

Aside from that, the Op's beauty could have passed from anything, was sick when purchased or contracted viral/bacterial infection, internal parasite...........

The six line is actually the second smallest in the tank. I have yet to see any behaviour that makes me rethink about getting him.... Yet.

I feed them all directly so I avoid too much food from sinking down.

I would also keep in mind that the Six Line IS going to become a terror to new fish;)

The coral beauty was one of my first fish to be added, about two months before the six line. The wrasse is my newest addition.

Sixline was one of my first saltwater fish. I thought it was one of the coolest fish to have and couldn't resist getting it and then it became a holy terror as it got older picking on my other fish and decimated my shrimps overnight one day. (Been in the hobby since 1993) Lesson learned.

As with any fish species, there are the good and there is the bad. In other words hit or miss. Yours may play nice now, but just be on guard.

I have learned over the years to read and take personal experiences into consideration when doing anything in this hobby. Back when I started there wasn't any internet, just books, LFS (good and bad) and personal experiences, including my own trial and error.

Good luck to you! Happy reefing!
