So Roughly a week ago a good freind came to me with three RTNing peiced of sps. Me the good freind i am took them in hopes of saving them. I have started to see growth in them. But i look at the frag rack i put them on and i see on the only acro on that rack little red suckers the size of pin heads. I would also like to say i can almost see wings on them. i can also conferm i can see them moving. Would these be red bugs? also what can i do, and do they ONLY go after acro's or is my enchanta's/monti's ok? should i pull it out a dip in some iodian or just toss the coral, i have inspected all other acro's and dont see a thing so i think they are only on acros on the frag rack which are one.

Dose interceptor to the tank, its harmless to the reef..

Crabs, hermitcrabs, and shrimp are the only inverts that will be effected/die...

Any other options like maybe iodian dip the one acro if i see them again intercepter? how do i get intacepter, and what would happen if i let them be they would eat the acro right?

Dip them in Revive, it kills red bugs.

Are you 100% sure on that one? how much revive/how much tank water for how long?

i just went through the interceptor treatment with my tank this past week. i also dipped them prior to try and rid of the red bugs, but they just came back again and again. the interceptor treatment worked great. i have not seen them since. you just have to take caution on how much you use to the amount of water in your system to really kill them. i went light , saw they where still hanging on then added a little more to make sure they where dead. i have a 90 gallon tank with an over all volume of around 110 so i used a little over one quarter of the pill. you need the largest pill they have that treats dogs up to 110 pounds or something like that. got the pill at my local animal hospital. the revive will only kill whats on the acros , and if you have them in your tank they will only come back. i would go with the interceptor. i left two emerald crabs in the system while treating and they both survived.

How do i get interceptor? does any one have some i can buy? i only have roughly a 70g tottale system. So i guess this will kill my fuge right?

I think you can order it through petmeds.com or you have to go and get a prescription through a vet. Some vets won't prescribe it to you since it's intended for dogs.

Would any have some off hand they could give/sell me? i have two pure bred boxers who have been the the vet before.

Yea they want 30 dollers for it for six pill's. Would any one happen to have a pill they want to sell?

Yea just tell them the story they might give it to you... Print out this page or an article about interceptor and show them..

And about dipping each individual sps, that usually does not work.. Just treat the whole tank, it is very easy and harmless...

I've overdosed interceptor in my tank for 2 days straight with no ill affects, I like to run it longer to make sure they are all gone..
Then after the 2 days I put in the carbon, turn on the skimmer and do a small waterchange if you like...

so this should be the stage

- dose it (not sure how much have a 70g tank)
- wait two days with no skimmer&carbon
- third day turn on skimmer and carbon again
- third day also do a 20g water change

That sound right to every one?

Yup sounds good to me, some people like to run it for only 12hours but I think in some situations that is not enough time.. So I do 2 full days, it will not harm your tank, I have done this multiple times before with no affects to coral, fish, snail's, starfish and urchin's....

-First your going to chop the pill in 4 pieces as 1 pill treats almost 400 gal
dont worry about overdosing it never happends

-Take out all your hermit crabs, cleaners or fire shrimps they will be affected with the treatment

-Crush the 1/4 piece of the pill and pour it in a cup with salt water in it and mix with aspoon until dissolve

-Take the carbon off line, filter pads, socks and dont disconect the skimmer off just pull out the line for the air mix so you have only water passing thru the skimmer you want to treat every equipment also just in case

-Next spill the water with the interceptor pill in the tank and wait for 12 hrs or more if you need to

-You will see them falling off in 8 hours and a bubble string with some of them attach

-When you dont see no more well its time for a water change 20% IS GOOD
install the air line for the skimmer and put new carbon in the tank and you will be set and happy

Some say giving a treatment with interceptor 3 times in a row is the best way. I gave one treatment and dont see any red bugs but they could come back and I will be ready

What eggie said but I think it is better to pulverize the whole pill then make the portions. Most of the pill is just filler so mixing it up guarantees you get the right amount of medication in your portion. Also, from what I've read, longer is better than increasing the dosage.

Good point also
I only think its more easy to chop the pill in 4 pieces so you know how much your using out of one pill

I have done this many times over the years, just longer and I double the dose....no harm done just gets the ones that might hang on and become immune the next go around.

Dustin I believe said as well as Mitch Carl, multipule treatments a few days apart and the last about a week after 2nd to last. 3-4 treatments, to make sure they are gone...

then all new corals in a bath of 24 hours after they acclimate to the q-tank.

Just my opinion.
