red planet question

I have a frag of ORA red planet that has been doing really weel in my tank for about a month until about 2 weeks ago. It's turned completely red and I have no idea why. could it be a lighting problem? all other sps are doing great and my params are in check

it usually turns all red when its getting alot of light. moving it lower will bring the green base out more

If what you mean is that the green color has faded....I've seen many mature colonies on pictures that show this same behavior... not really sure why ... mine keeps both colors nicely and I have it in the highest part of my tank.

its about a 1" frag so I wouldn't say its mature by any means lol. I'll try moving it down and see what happens

That just means it's getting sufficient lighting..;) no worries my red planet is bright red with pink tips and zero green any where not even the base.... No worries man... If ya want the green back move it down...

min is midway on the upper half and it's a pastel red. I have about a 6 inch by 9 inch colony and only the base has green in it once i get to branches its nothing but red.

When i first got a frag, it was a nice mixture of red and green, however it turned almost completely red after sitting in my tank under the intensity of the LEDs. Now that it's growing a bit, the base is shadowed, so its getting some of the green back, but the branches are still a solid red.

Do you have a pic??? I'm currently switching to LEDs and I hear the red planet browns out under them and I was really bummed myself.... This brings me new hope!!! Lol I'm not gonna sell my mh setup for at least 6 months after I make the swap to make sure I made the right move...

I have a freind that i got my colony from his colony is over 12x10 and his is colored amazingly if thats a word. His is a pennisila(how ever you spell it). Its like a 300g tank and its nice looking under LED only.

Here's an old top down of mine. It's grown quite a bit since then and has some more green coming in at the base. Mine never browned out, so my guess is the people tha thave experienced browning out just made the switch to LED too quickly. I used to run 250w 14k Phoenix bulbs and there was no comparison to how my SPS looks... amazing coloration!

yea mine doesn't look that good but I can't wait til it does!!!!! I really don't mind not having the green base as long as get the pink tips otherwise it'll just another red acro lol

good atleast I'm not the only one to have this problem. it seems to be common and that means I don't have to change anything in my tank YES!!

The RP is very light sensitive IMP not like it will RTN but it changes color very easy. I like it no mater the base/branch color though.

Here's my red planet with an obvisous top down shot. pix were taken just over a month apart from each other. My RP didnt grow at all for the first 1.6yrs but now its like a weed and I'm loving it. Check out the second picture and the new growth on the bottom right of the RP, new growth is white then colors up.....very weird.
