Hello fellow reefers
I’m sharing my current build and experience
I started an E260 tank, bought it used came with a every thing you need except a sump ..
started it with dry rock “mistake 1’ well refer to it as M1
Ran out out of RODI -M2
decided to go with the finest sand -M3
And no sump -M4
Never do what I did ..or at least I won’t
Everything seemed good, month 1 cycled it for 3 weeks, added 2 chromeis and went through an ugly phase but nothing big ..
Month 2 I’m ready for more fish and sps I know -M5 ..
Anthias ,fox face ,6line and a few sps in. every thing is beautiful I’m feeding like there is no tomorrow blasting the lights-M6
Big water changes 25% every 2 weeks
Still it’s all good some green algae but nothing wild …
Month 3 and the green hair algae just exploded
I knew it was coming but it was shocking to see how much .. I turned of the lights and as I soon as I did that started feeding less and the anthias and the sps didn’t make it …
Chromies either
Month 4 lights back on rock is clean . Chemipure, carbon , and my favorite Tomini tang
Hair algae “gone”
Frags and more frags and sump upgrade
I used my on sump 32 inches takes all the space under the tank but I like it .
Plumbing and finding custom fittings was not easy. It is still no 100% finished
Some pieces from metric to inches are just illusive.
currently its a mixed reef will be sps dominated
Equipment
Nyos skimmer
Lights hydra 26 -2 I have radions G3pros but for now I’m testing these
L1 vectra pump
1 gyre
2 reef power wave makers
Top of with kalk-wasser
Apex controller and dosing pumps not on yet
Fuge is awaiting macro from algae barn
Parameters
Alk-8
Salinity-35ppm
Cal-350
Mag-1100
Nitrates 0.12
Phos- N/A for now
Would like to raise my parameters

but other pressing issues seem to appear
Hair algae is less ..manual removal and having a good skimmer helps

Dino is here and it’s on .. not to ugly but it’s here
I’ve been winning. I think the sump upgrade gave it kickstart all that new water.

Month 7.
shortened my light cycle 6 hours
10% white blues at 80
Siphon to a filter sock and throw as what I’m counting on fo both Dino and hair algae adding vibrant
If that doesn’t kick it then Dr timms is my next option.
Not going the UV sterilizer rout.

I’ll leave some pictures. the tank is not photo ready but here it is

Congratulations on the new adventure! It looks like you are off to a good start and have a lot of potential with that tank!

A huge millstone
Ph 7.8
Dinos gone
I put the skimmer on an air line going outside
Raised my phosphate to 0.08 nitrate 0.3
And it’s looking better
i Think kalkwasser is helping 2
No water change for the past month
Might do one next week
