Red sea reefer 170 diy lid

So I made a lid with a aluminum screen frame from home depot. Just measured around the edge and used a saw to cut the frame. The netting cost the most st 12 bucks from amazon. The rubber filling and tool to push it into the screen frame can be bought from home depot. Had some egg crate laying around for the back and some plexiglass to it from falling into the tank.Just fuel for thought for everyone if they are on a budget.. I will probably put some netting on the egg crate just for safety

It is but the acrylic ones look so much nicer. I had one of those DIY kit tops on my 170. It was like wearing an ugly old hat with a nice outfit.

Nice job for inexpensive DIY cover.

I did the same thing when I did a tank transfer 3 months ago -- cheap Lowe's screen frame kit + cheap clear mesh from Amazon.

I used clear acrylic I had already with cutouts for my 2 HOB filters for the back, instead of egg crate,,, but pretty much same idea.

3 months and no complaints from me...
