I'm planning on using 4 radion xr15 g6 pros for a red sea reefer 900xxl. The tank will primarily be used for acropora. I would ideally like to be able to give acros at the bottom of the tank a decent amount of par. My question is what supplemental lighting options would best achieve this?

How far is the tank from a window?

I am asking because, as Ive discovered, a window can add significantly to what a par meter reads; even with reflected light.

I have that tank and with 3 Skys over it I get par readings above 600… Its hard for me to trust that reading just because of all the reflected lighting…

PAR is tricky, I wont pretend to understand

It's not too far away from a window, so yes that will probably be adding to the par reading. I am considering 4 t5s as supplemental lighting or two orphek bars.

IfI had to be honest, Im not in love with the “muted” look of these Skys or that diffuser…
actually I hate it….whomever thought this was a improvement over a Kessil shimmer was wrong IMO

Ive ordered a couple of those Mitras light bars for another tank…. Anyway

Cost wise they “appear” to be competitive with the higher end solutions like Kessil and Radion.

A lot of people like them…no endorsement but might be worth a look, I certainly thought so…
We will see

Any idea how well they punch down to the bottom of the tank? I'm considering adding 3 orphek Atlantic icons in addition to 4 radions. As I need ideally 200+ par on the sand bed.

T5s, I have no idea how many I would need to achieve that.

I don't think the 4 xr15's are strong enough. In my opinion, you'd be better off selling them for something more powerful. However, if you add two light bars on each side (4 total), such as AI blade, reefbrite, or quanta, I think acros could be on the bottom with the xr15's. The xr15 is just not a very strong light for that sized tank.

I actually ended up going with a red sea reefer 625 in the end. Probably should have mentioned that in my last reply. I'm thinking about adding three orphek Atlantic icons by the side of the radions for better coverage and higher par towards the bottom of the tank. However I'm not sure wether that or adding light bars would be a better option.

I have 4 RL 90s over a 750XXL with growing clams on the bottom. I do have a PAR meter but whatever the actual PAR it is seems sufficient if not barely

Went with two reef factory reef flare pro large's. They seem to have pretty good par numbers on the sandbed from what I've read online. As well as 3 radion xr15 pros.
