Hey!

I recently changed the roll advance length and not for the better. Does anyone have or know the stock setting for how much the mat advances. I didn’t write it down before I changed it and I wish I could remember what it is. Thank you!

I think it’s 1.5” but I have mine set to 1-1.2
This is exactly where mine is set. I'm not sure what the default setting is.
I can't explain why but I use much less fleece now that I reduced the advance. I can't remember exactly but I think I was advancing somewhere around 3" or more before I changed it. My thinking was less wear on the motor but a replacement motor isn't much more than a roll of fleece so I'm keeping mine at 1-1.2 The crossed out entry was a partial roll.

Yeah, I’m usually at 14-16” per day. I was at 32 but I turned down my return as it wasn’t needed at 1400gph. Now that it’s at 700, which is 10x the total tank volume per hour, the mat usually is half as well. The ATO runs smoother as well.

Thank you for the info, that helps a lot to get me back to a baseline and see. I’ve been finding my fleece is stretching instead of rolling. I took the whole thing apart and cleaned it. Seemed to still be doing it so I increased the advance to 5” today and it seemed to work better. Not sure what’s going on with it sticking/stretching the fleece but it’s happened out of the blue. It’s been running on this tank for about a year and no issues until now.

That’s an example of what it’s doing but I still can’t figure out why. I did notice today by increasing the roll advance to 5” that it stopped this stretching. So idk what’s going on. Typically I was getting a month or two out of a roll and now all of a sudden it’s a lot quicker.

Where did you buy the fleece roll? The exact same thing happened to me when I bought some RedSea fleece from a China-based supplier. Not sure if it was the roll I was sent or something else was going on. I have used other rolls form same supplier without issue.

When you ran the fleece through carriage, did you run it between the red bars and the black bottom or just push the carriage on top and clamped it I ? If you don’t thread it between the two red bars and the bottom, it won’t roll and it will stretch and barely move which isn’t good for the motor.

Seems obvious, but one time, I accidentally just put the fleece roll under that carriage and it was stretching it out instead or rolling through. I realized what I had don’t when I took that carriage out but the fleece stayed down in the bottom. Then I realized I didn’t lace it through properly.

Omg you are absolutely right!!

I can’t believe I didn’t catch this twice when I took it apart to deep clean it. I swear I’ve literally tried everything to figure out why it was doing this but you are absolutely right. I just looked at it again and saw I just put it straight in and didn’t put it through the rollers. I can’t believe I did that, I’ve had it for a year so one would think I wouldn’t have missed that step but apparently I did.

Thank you so much for that helpful suggestion and picture. Words can’t describe how much I appreciate your response. Happy feeding!

P.s. maybe next time I won’t be an idiot and I’ll learn my lesson lol

Haha, glad I could help. And being an idiot is what makes us interesting :)

It took me 2 weeks of head scratching and likely killing my motor before I figured it out…..
