What’s everyone’s user experience with these skimmers? I never looked much into them but came across a screaming deal on a used rsk 600 today so I snagged it and am going to use it on my 112 SPS build. I understand that is a lot of skimmer, but I’ve seen where they offer a dc conversion kit and I will more than likely run the skimmer on a timer, not 24/7. So chime in with your Red Sea skimmer experience good bad and ugly especially if you’ve done the dc conversion on one

I run their 200 (or whatever the smaller model is) and I love it. The pump is whisper quiet, it disassembles easy to clean, the sensors and automations through the controller make it dang near impossible to over skim, etc. I’d definitely recommend it, but I’m sure there’s better options on the market without the Red Sea tax.. I bought it because I have a lot of their existing gear and didn’t want another app for my aquarium.

Right on. I think maybe I was not as interested in their gear because they’re known for tanks and ultimately a lot of tank failures. But this skimmer, in really clean shape for $100 couldn’t pass it up.

I have three, all have been mod/upgraded to the ReefRun upgrade...

They are good skimmers but IMO better ones can be had for the price point...
I think the big one I have is like $800, just repeating that for emphasis

Also that skimmer over run gimmick is a gimmick...it sort of works but usually it errors for no reason or seems to think the cup is full even after cleaning the probes

I just had a Red Sea seam failure, but I still have every intention to continue buying their products (excluding tanks). Only pieces of non-Red Sea kit in my tank at the moment are my return pump and my lights (Radion). If my return fails, I’ll probably pick up one of the RS pumps as I’m genuinely impressed with how quiet the skimmer DC pump is, and how comparatively great the app is (it’s still pretty bad, but all of the reef tank company I’ve apps are awful)

are you still running the little squeegee thing in the skimmer? I’ve read that if enough gunk builds up on it it’ll read a false positive for gunk build up.

Yes I still have that "hard to turn" gizmo in the neck....I almost NEVER use it because its almost impossible to operate...
maybe I'll remove it....THANKS !!!!!!

Double check the orientation of the little rubber scraper things in it... I originally installed mine the wrong way somehow and it made it nearly impossible to turn. Once I got it corrected, it cleans the head pretty well.

Overall though the function is a bit of a gimmick as it causes the cable to coil around itself and make a big mess (plus I assume it's not good for the wires themselves to be under such stress).
