It's debatable on how safe it is towards coral and invertebrates from my knowledge. The issue with the blackout method is that it just goes away but the bacteria is still present and just comes back in the same fashion with in a week. It definitely requires at least 10k spectrum white light and thrives in that. I did a lights out in the display and left my fuge light on the entire time and was able to give it an ideal growing condition and it mainly came back just in the fuge.

So you don't know how safe the kz stuff is?
I also have it in my fuge and also leave my light on 24/7 did you and up doing only 12 hours a day in the fuge then?

The kz stuff does sort of work.. But your better off doing chemi with the skimmer cup off and being rid of the pest.. I had to use it not too long ago, and I just did it because I saw patches.. And it is safe(well, I'll say it has always been save for me and all of the people I personally know.. But we've all been in the hobby for a long time).. My system is 99%sps with only lps being 3 pieces .. And it never harmed a thing..

And for your fuge, depending on what your trying to grow, 24 hours with no rest is not benefitting the macro, just the cyano.. Run it opposite your display tank with 12 to 16 hours.. That's more than enough..

And, btw, chemi doesn't kill or affect cheato at all..

And never, ever trust the lfs.. That is, unless they personally (and you have seen it) have achieved what your trying to do.. That's a rule you will learn over time.. Out of all the stores around me(and there are many), there are only 3 to four I frequent.. And I have been in this hobby a long time, and wasted a lot of money based off of a lot of lfs advice.. Not all are bad, but there are far fewer good ones than bad..

I'm gonna give the kz stuff a try before I surrender to chemiclean. I also just put a timer on my fuge light. I trust the fish shop I go to. There is only 3 by me and I only go to one now. They have never steered me in the wrong direction.

Yes, it does.. Much like the Dr tims method of elimination.. But.. It does work much better (not necessarily in time, but in thoroughness) when combined with zeobak, coral snow and zeozyme..

The kz stuff will have no ill effects what so ever. Granted you don't know what's in them but their track record is beyond reputable. I'm saying the chemi-clean is what is debatable. You can do a search on just this forum and find people that have had issues with it harming corals or inverts, but as others have said some people have no problem with it. So debatable. I only ran the fuge light to try to concentrate the growth of the cyano in the fuge while I did a 3 day blackout and I left the light in the fuge on for a total of 7 days before I turned it back to its 12 hour opposite photo period timer. My personal theory is chemicals last resort and with caution, But to each their own.

I agree. Chemicals scare the hell outta me. I switched to 13 hours light on in the fuge opposite of the. Display tank. I'm doing the 3 days no light though. Hope it helps. Also I have blue legged hermits and Scarlett's. I've been scared to try normal red legged hermits. A friend told me they are aggressive. Will they harm corals if I get some?

Bad enough to frustrate me though lol
Lol, oh I understand completely.. More than you know.. I couldn't stand it in on my fuge walls in a few places. Then, it showed a spot in my stock tub, and I said "that's it"! Lol, it wasn't even in my display.. So I feel your pain..

For me, the mb7 didn't do too much on it.. The mb7 always worked great for small diatom outbreaks I used to get at the beginning.. And I love mb7, because like zeobak, it makes the water even more sparkly, and improves skim concentrate.. You just have to use more than the zeobak.. I love some of the zeo products and have used them for years.. Also..
