This morning as usual, I inspected the aquarium very closely.
What I found this morning was not typical. My red linkia starfish which is about 3" is size had something at the base of one of its feet. On closer inspection, I saw two small legs coming out of the location.

So is this guy really giving birth in my 40b?

I'll try to get some pictures when I get home

Lateral fission would be a good description. Star Fish do not give birth as we think of it. I would love to see an image.

If the Starfish a Formia?

It's a red linkia. I should have taken a photo this morning. I asked my wife to take one after she drops the kids off at school. I've never seen this before and was actually concerned as it normally stays on the rocks. This morning its on the glass. My first thought was the clown fish defending their area, or it got to close to the anemone.

I actually did not expect it to make it during the transition from the old tank into the one I am building. But there is hope!

Sorry on the lighting. Look to the left of the starfish towards the base. You can see the little legs.

Unfortunately I was wrong. This morning I lost my first inhabitant of the 40 gallon temporary tank.

I need to get my build completed.

If the tank is not mature it shouldn't have a starfish in it. Most starfish need a mature system to be able to find enough food.

Yep I know this. It was my well established tank before I broke it down to sell. It just did not make it during its stay in the holding tank.
