I just had a catastrophic seem failure on my 3 1/2 year old Red Sea reef tank. When I bought it I did not know there was such an issue with the seam failures. 4 am in the morning my alarms went off and I found a cascade of water coming from the right front seam. I was able to stop after @ 40 gallons of water went all over my carpeted living room. My fish guy and a reefer friend showed up and help tear the tank down Hundreds of dollars of damage to my house and I had to give away all my fish and corals away. Contacted Red Sea and since it was 5 months out of its 3 year warranty, too bad. They did offer a small credit towards the purchase of a Gen2 system. NO THANKS. I will never buy a Red Sea product again. BEWARE. I will go with someone else. I hope this helps someone from buying a Red Sea and not have to go with what I did.

Sorry to hear about your tank failure. I hope you're able to reset and go forward with another tank. Best of luck!

It’s just baffling to me that they can’t make a tank that stays together. It’s not that hard.

I just had to take down a 30+ year old Oceanic 225 gallon. It would not fit up the stairs (prob installed before lower level construction was done), so I unfortunately had to demolish it. Even after a handful of swings with a hammer finally cracked the front panel from top to bottom, it probably still would have held water better than a RS.

Such a nightmare. I’m so sorry.

I have a Reefer 250 G2 with the new “armored seals” and my tank developed a pinhole leak 16 months after getting wet. And while RedSea honored the warranty in my case, it was still a nightmare. Hoping the tank would not destroy my home, concern for my livestock, and all that $, time, and effort that was going to be torn down and transferred into a replacement tank. If/when I upgrade my tank, it will not be RedSea, likely Cade.

Thanks. My fish guy is getting me a quote on a new tank currently. Gonna go FOWLR first this time.
I hope it's not another Red Sea 🤣 😜 🙃

Good luck with your FOWLR project!

UPDATE: Red Sea is sending ANOTHER G2 tank (3rd). I asked "if G3 is better why not replace it with that instead of another G2 which has failed on me twice now?" Response: If you wanted to upgrade to a Reefer 425 G3 system, we can apply the MSRP of the Reefer 425 G2 glass replacement ($1,569.75) as a credit toward the cost of the G3 system. This would leave a pre-tax remaining balance of $1,929.25.

I told them to just send the G2.

I'd LIKE to get an acrylic replacement that fits on this stand. Just not sure WHICH one would be good.

Red Sea support is militant

If you’re in warranty great - they sent me a new sensor for my ATO

If you’re not? You can kick rocks

They won’t even tell me how to mix their product together to match their other product

Man I am so sick to my stomach of seeing ppl put blood sweat and thousands into a beautiful tank just for Red Sea to destroy their home and hobby. I really don’t want to sound the way it reads but how can this continue to be ok? If I had enough money I would make a website and boost it on Google that would warn and show people all the busted tanks they’ve created and all the damage they’ve done until they’ve proven to make a better product. Not to mention how they do their existing clients. I’ve seen guys spend 18k on a tank it arrive with a chip and not only will they not replace it they won’t send him a new front glass panel for him to fix it nor even a discount. Al because it was moved 3 feet off the pallet until the chip was noticed. I love their test kits but other than that there’s not much quality put out by them. Skimmers are on but cheap and thin acrylic. I’m sorry it’s just frustrating seeing this every other day. Please remove my comment if it is “too much or too controversial.”

Your right, what does this do to our industry?

Its a weird spot.

Personally I'm mad that they don't acknowledge it.

But I also understand RS is BIG, they sell a LOT of tanks, and most don't fail.

Can I rabbit hole why? Yes, I can. Does it meet "Fact", no.

But one sad reality we have here is that many reefers get out within a year. So how many more failures would we see if they stayed for 3 years?

In the end it is RS's response that gets me more than anything else. And their response is pathetic IMO.
