I'm currently 9 months in on my G2 XL. It's going mostly good, I've been having issues with my NanoMat since the day I started the tank. The water level in the sump has constantly been a PIA. I recently figured out that it's a flow issue with the return sponge filter and running Chemi-Pure. Second issue is I have been sitting at 0.00 Nitrate and 0.00 Phosphate for like 5 months and I'm assuming the chemi-pure is partly to blame, along with having a really small bio-load. Should I just stop running chemi-pure/carbon and leave the return filter sponge or should I continue running carbon and remove the return filter sponge? I'll list my setup and equipment below. I've pretty much come to the conclusion that I can't run both the sponge filter and a carbon bag at the same time unless I get a stronger return pump. Which is more beneficail to run? Is the NanoMat sufficient enough to be the only mechanical filtration without the sponge?

I would start by removing the chemi-pure. If you have corals in your tank, they are starving and need some NO3 and PO4 in the tank.

I'd remove the chemi-pure as well as the bubble sponge and run regular carbon in the future unless your phos gets out of control. The sponge is a pita to remove but it'll help your water level and not become a nutrient bomb down the road.
