Redsea Peninsula 500 FAIL

My 3 yr old Redsea Peninsula 500 G1 failed and luckily I had just gotten home and noticed after the first 10 gallons started cascading into the floor. The seam in the right long side glass separated in the middle part of the glass.

I was able to remove all the rockwork and fish within the 30-40 minutes it took to fully drain.
Anyone have any experience with this happening and where you able to get it replaced by redsea?
Did you reseal?
I took video and I think I may be under the 3yr warranty period.
Any info will be appreciated.

Red Sea Fail, very harsh!! But truthful IMO.

So I clicked the little Magnifying glass top right of page and input 3 words, Red Sea Fail. This is the results just from these forums. Over 20 pages of threads. Given we have this preponderance of evidence that Red Sea tanks are BAD, why do people keep buying them, and worse replacing one with...

Unfortunately there is a plethora of reported cases. A simple search will provide more examples.

Sorry mate. RedSea may help you, but at this point there is zero reason to trust another redsea tank.

I switched mine out for a waterbox before I had to deal with this sort of disaster.

Why won't they just recall their tanks. I have a brand new redsea reefer 500 that I'm just now setting up. I didn't get a chance to set it up previously, but now I'm absolutely terrified of it breaking. I should've gone with a better brand. This actually makes me rethink redsea for any equipment since I have stopped trusting the company.

I couldn't deal with the anxiety.

If you haven't set it up yet, I'd sell it at a loss, and upgrade. It just isn't worth the stress.

Won't do anything because it is the silicone that fails and almost always at the bottom in the middle of a pane

Money. There is absolutely no way that they're going to pay to move a "recalled" tank, so they would have to make you promise to destroy it, but then they would have to pay to ship a replacement tank. If they did this, it would bankrupt them for sure.

I'm sorry you're stuck with a tank that you will always have to worry about.

Sorry to hear it - must be horrible - Part of the reason I shut my tanks down was - though the likely hood statistically is not high that it will leak, if it does it would have been a disaster (I used to have a 200 and 100 gallon version 1 reefers. They were about 7 years old - no evidence of problem or leak.)

There are reports of RedSea replacing tanks for free - or at a significant discount - there are also reports of people saying 'no thanks'. Most of the failures seems to be the Gen 1 tanks.

I'm sure people have - but - I would never trust it - and having a professional do it by the time you move the tank, etc - will probable cost as much or more.

Call RedSea customer support - they will ask about your stand, etc etc ask for pictures. And decide what/if they will replace your tank. When they have done so - they (if my memory serves me right) replace with the gen II or III versions - For the Gen I larger tanks - and supplied a brace for free for customers. I don't know if or if not they offered a public apology.

All tanks have had reports of breaking. RedSea sells a lot of tanks. I'm not advocating for RedSea - nor would I buy another tank with the same design (RedSea or not)

Surprised insurance companies aren’t

There aren't that many claims - in all likelihood. However you bring up a really good point - if you own an aquarium - make sure your insurance company is aware and that they cover the tank and any damage. Additionally, any damage to your floors, lower levels, etc - especially if on a rental policy - or you might be on the hook or thousands of dollars of damage. Most insurance companies do not cover the fish, rock, coral, etc - but you can buy specialty insurance if you have a large investment in live goods.

Sorry this happened. I had a Red Sea 500 setup and I transferred it to a Cade 1500 due to the concern of the bottom or side seam busting. Some believe it's the silicone and other believe it's the stand. So resealing may or may not solve the problem.
