Reduce Nitrates

I need to reduce nitrates. I was getting flase reeding from an API test...was reading 0 and actually is 26. I did a 12% water change and it dropped to 22. Would it be ok to do 10-12% every 4 days? I didn't want to do a drastic water change and prefer not to use chemicals.

That is a totally reasonable amount of water changes if you so desire. That won’t change your long term nitrate level though.

I was dosing nitrates because I thought I was at zero...I even cut down my skimmer time because of it.
