Hey guys, I'm in the middle of planning a 100G acro tank. Dimensions are 47 x 23 x 19. There is no center brace and I plan to use the mounting arms RB sells. I've seen people using the 35 and 45 lights over four foot tanks. With the mounting bars I am limited to light height so would a 35 be able to have enough spread of 400-500 par in the upper levels from side to side or will a 45 be a safer option?
I'd do 45 if you want that par edge to edge.

Still trying to dial in the look I want and get my corals adjusted that have been under a maxspect razor for a few years.

Meridian 45 Edge Bar Bundle Shallow.

My wife wants more white. Running whites at 50 percent at peak daytime. This is when i get home to the start of the night fade.

Like them so far, got to figure out what I’m doing.

Quite a read through and I am glad I did.

I am in the beginning stages of a 10' x 30" x 24"(h) acrylic tank that will have 3 openings with two 6" braces. I am still evaluating lights, but I was considering two of the Meridian 63 bundles.

After reading through this thread, it seems like 2x 45's maybe more appropriate and solve some power issues since the 45's can link with the edge bars and the 63's cannot.

It seems like it might be even more ideal to do 3x 35's bundle and position one over each opening. However, the price goes from $5500 to $6800. Is this justifiable?

Also - it seems like if I want the edge bars to be controllable via app, I need a controller board per bar, correct? Is that just a "nice to have" or a "must have"?

For spectrum options, previous posts seem to suggest that Shallow Reef for the Meridian and UV/Blue Hybrid is a good all around build with the current offerings - is that correct?

@Reef Breeders reached out to me this morning via phone and answered a bunch of questions, so I figured I would pass those answers along here.

Ideal configuration would either be 3x 35's Bundle or 6 x 35's. I haven't figured out which way to go.

The edge bars are controllable via app by default. There was / is an option to by it as manual, but almost no one does that.

The recommended spectrum is the Shallow reef bundled with the Blue / UV if i do the bundles.

I know some people have mentioned the moonlights are too bright. I have two 11’s over my 75g tank, and never felt they were too bright. However, I have a meridian 24 over my 30” frag tank and its basically two 11’s in one fixture, and the moonlights are on the bright side.

I got the new moonlight driver boards installed and it lets me really fine tune the moonlights as dim as I could ever want. All meridians now include the new boards and will ship with them installed. Existing owners can upgrade to them if they want more precise moonlight control and a wider range of settings.

This weekend my account was no longer on the app.

I thought somehow i got signed out.

It said enter your email, I did and it said i needed to set up a new account and i didn’t have a tank or lights.

My lights are still running my schedule however so they are connected to internet and using my inputted schedule info.

Took awhile to set up my schedule and i don’t want to do it again.

I figure if i go back through loading the lights into a new account i’ll lose my current schedule.

Any thing I can do to get my account to come back up?

I’d call them directly. They are pretty responsive. You can also upload your setting to the community tab and can always go back to it.

what the heck happened to the app? Keeps telling me no active sub and I can’t access my tank tab or anything? I am logged in but nothing is there except my group but no schedule…

Edit:

Looks like we have to pay to use these lights? I have 4 lights so I am forced to pay $15 monthly or nothing works (can’t even see profiles). I must have been on a trial when I first bought them because the app doesn’t even let me setup a tank with spamming me I need to pay.

Wish I knew I’d have to pay $200 yearly to use these things before I bought them.

@Reef Breeders - can you please offer some clarification on the "pay-to-use" your app?

During a routine overnight app update (roughly 1AM to 6AM EST), some users briefly saw an "update required" prompt while the new version rolled out. Everything is fully up to date now.

To get the latest, just make sure your app is current:

- Apple App Store: version 2.0.1
- Android: latest version 2.0.0
- If you don't see the update yet, give the store a quick refresh.

A couple of notes: your lights continued running on their normal schedule the whole time, so nothing changed on your tank, and there's no need to reset any hardware.

On pricing: setup, schedules, and profiles are included and staying that way. The optional premium tier only covers the new features we recently added, and it's separate from this update.

If you're on the latest version and have any questions, reach out through the support portal anytime and we'll be glad to help.

Hello ReefBreeders Team,

I’m extremely disappointed to see that basic lighting controls for the Meridian are now being placed behind a premium subscription.

Features like acclimation mode and the ability to adjust intensity on the fly are not “premium” extras. They are core functions of a reef aquarium light. These are the kinds of controls users rely on to safely acclimate corals, avoid bleaching, and properly manage their systems.

I purchased this light expecting full control of the hardware I paid for. Locking essential functionality behind a monthly, yearly, or lifetime subscription after the fact feels completely unreasonable and anti-customer.

This move seriously damages my confidence in the Meridian platform and in ReefBreeders as a brand. I have recommended your products before, but I cannot continue to recommend a lighting system that requires a paid subscription for basic reefkeeping features.

Please reconsider this decision and restore these core controls to all Meridian users without requiring a premium account.

Thanks for sharing your concern. I want to clarify this because it is an important distinction.

The existing Meridian controls are not being moved behind a paid account. The standard app features Meridian customers have had access to since launch are staying included, and the light will continue to operate the same way it has.

Nothing is being taken away from existing Meridian owners. The included controls people have been using to run their lights remain included.

The optional premium upgrade is for additional app features we have developed beyond the original Meridian feature set. The Meridian has been very well received with the included controls it has had for years, and that included feature set is not changing.

Every lighting platform has different strengths. One brand may have a feature someone likes, while another brand may offer something different. No single platform includes every possible app feature because app development, testing, maintenance, and long term support require ongoing investment.

For us, the choice was either to leave the app exactly where it was, or continue investing in new tools and offer those added features separately for customers who want them. This lets us keep the standard Meridian controls included while still giving customers the option to unlock newer tools as the app continues to grow.

We do not want anyone thinking basic control of the Meridian is being removed or placed behind a paid account. That is not the case. Existing Meridian owners can continue using the included controls they already have, and the premium option is only for added features beyond that.

Quick update for everyone seeing the subscription message or missing tank/profile controls.

This was a temporary app rollout issue yesterday while the new version was being pushed live. It has been corrected.

You do not need a paid subscription to access the standard Meridian controls that have always been included. Existing controls are not being taken away, and your lights are not being changed into a paid-only product.

Please update the ReefBreeders app through the App Store or Google Play. Once you are on the latest version, your tank tab, schedules, profiles, and standard controls should be available again.

Your lights should continue running their saved schedules during this time. Please do not reset your lights or controller, since that is not needed.

If you update the app and still have any issues, please reach out to us directly with a screenshot or screen recording. We’re very responsive and will be happy to take a closer look right away.

gotta pay $10 per month to have your lights acclimate or change intensity sickk
IMG_3938.jpeg
to clarify, you do not need Premium to change intensity. Intensity adjustment is part of the standard Meridian controls and has always been included.

There was a temporary app issue yesterday during the rollout where some users were shown Premium prompts in places they should not have been. That made it look like certain standard controls were locked, but that was not the intended behavior. It was corrected the same day.

The Acclimation Mode shown there is a new Premium feature. It is designed to automate the acclimation process over time, so instead of manually adjusting your lights over several weeks or months, the app can help manage that progression.

The standard Meridian controls customers have been using are not changing. You can still run your lights, adjust intensity, manage schedules, and use the included controls without Premium.

If anyone is still seeing something different, please update the app first. If it still does not look right after updating, reach out to us directly and we’ll be happy to take a look.

I’m glad intensity adjustment is still included. My issue is just with acclimation mode.

In my opinion, acclimation is not a premium feature. It’s a basic reef-light function and should be included with the fixture.

I’ll wait to see how others feel, but I strongly believe this should be part of the standard Meridian controls.

Meridian owners have always been able to manually acclimate corals using the standard controls by adjusting schedules and intensity over time. Those standard Meridian controls remain included and are not changing.

The new Acclimation Mode is different. It is an automated feature developed after the Meridian was already released. It can run over a custom period of time and check in along the way before continuing the progression. That is a new app tool beyond the original Meridian feature set, and it required significant development, testing, and ongoing support.

The bigger picture is that our goal is to keep improving the Meridian platform and build the best reef lighting app possible. We do not want the app to stay limited to only the tools it launched with.

No lighting platform has every possible app feature, because every new tool requires development, testing, maintenance, and long term support. One brand may offer one feature, another brand may offer something different, but continued software development requires a sustainable model.

For us, there are only a few ways to handle that: keep the app limited to the included controls it already had, build future development into the upfront price of every light, or offer newer advanced features separately for customers who want them.

We chose the third option because it keeps the core Meridian experience intact for every owner while giving us a practical path to keep pushing the platform forward.

Nothing is being taken away from Meridian owners. The standard controls remain included. Premium is optional and applies to newer advanced tools beyond the original included feature set.

Acclimation Mode was never an included Meridian feature. It is a new Premium feature, and it will remain part of Premium as we continue building more advanced tools for the app.
