Wow. You should be proud of such a beautiful Reef display. This TOTM takes me back to the day of those early 2000's reefs that won such an honor. Just as inspirational and professionally managed. I think part of the feeling is your use of T5, in conjunction with the LED's. Also, seems you are very disciplined and not easily sidetracked by flashy new equipment and ideas, which is evident in the stability and beautiful colors you are getting out of your acros. The idea of swapping out your sandbed yearly, is very interesting. Aside from being a bit of a FM advertisement (I kid) this is by far a favorite winner on R2R. Keep up the great work!

There is no doubt this guy knows what he is doing as this post speaks volumes alone without any words and just photos. But, if anyone is reading any of this with any scrutiny for knowledge or research purpose, I am a little confused about the specific gravity of 1.0235 equating to 35 psu?

Edit: a word

Hi and thanks a lot for these words. what's the confusion about the PSU? Where I live, we don't really keep an eye on gravity, but on PSU. And 35 PSU is the value I try to keep. Calculating it with temperature on the right level, it should be the equal to 1.0235. isn't it?

Hi Oly, forgive me if I came off as maybe correcting you, I am still learning and I was confused. I assumed 1.0235 SG was equal to 31.3 PSU. I suppose my conversion was incorrect. I've been following you and Swissreefer for a while and I was just curious if you had started to run a different salinity value. I use ppt/psu as well on my aquariums.

11 Hour photo period? That has to be all together blue / white / blue cycle and not all on at the same time.

Picture 1: LED from 10:30 - 21:30 (30 min ramps)
Picture 2: T5 from 11.00 - 20.00 (no ramps)

Your tank is one of the cleanest I’ve seen. A well deserved award!

Wow, 9 hour photo period for all 8 bulbs? That's awesome. Glad to see no algae growth with that much light.

yes all 8 bulbs :) there shouldn't be algea when the water quality is good enough. I don't think that algae is a problem of only light amounts. maybe spectrum, ok.
