Lightpi is returnedWhat response do you get with the command "hostname" in a terminal?
Only other suggestion is to reboot your router to hopefully force it to recognize the new hostname. My pi didn't work initially, exactly as yours is doing. Don't know what I changed but has been working fine now. Funny thing is if I do a network arp (address resolution protocol) from my desktop, the reef-pi and the router are the only devices listed by name.Lightpi is returned

did you rename it using raspi-config? and after rename, did you reboot the pi ?I renamed my hostname of the raspberry pi in the configuration menu to lightpi, I cannot get to reef-pi by typing http://lightpi.local
So how is renaming the host name of the raspberry pi, going to get you to reef-pi web page?
Am I missing something here
yes., these two are different. the raspi-config thing changes the hostname, while the reef-pi ui changes the name metadata associated with only the reef-pi webserver , and is shown in the UI, its not the hostname. The name of reef-pi is useful for differentiating between different reef-pi when you have not setup hostnameWhat @ScottBrew said. But I just checked with mine. Updating the host name in the config screen of the web UI does not update the DNS table. I’m not sure if it’s supoosed to @Ranjib ? To change my .local name I had to do it in Raspi-config.
ping lightpi.local
Yes it's been rebooted, I used the desktop interface for the hostname change, does it need to be done in a terminal?did you rename it using raspi-config? and after rename, did you reboot the pi ?
How do I stop it, just close the terminal?what happens when you type
in raspberry pi terminal and in your laptop/computer.Code:ping lightpi.local
This is based on special type of dns, aka bonjour or multi cast based dns..its a local service discovery, and it may take a while (few minutes) for other devices in the same network to be aware of it. There are few cased where this does not work, so its definitely not a full proof thing, but most (windos, linux laptops, iphones) should work
press Ctl+CHow do I stop it, just close the terminal?

Weird, all I get is thispress Ctl+C
your dns is working, you should be able to access it from your phone by just typing http://lightpi.local , type the whole thing
you are typing the entire address including http:// ? if not it will go in search mode.. if you type it right and dns is not working you;ll get an error message, but it will not go to search.Weird, all I get is this![]()
Yes typing it all in, no build thread yet as this was to just get control of my lights while I collect partsyou are typing the entire address including http:// ? if not it will go in search mode.. if you type it right and dns is not working you;ll get an error message, but it will not go to search.
Do you have a build thread btw :-)

Do you know if anything specific going on during this time? It means the sensor readings have failed on checksum. When it happens, we can not trust the reading from the sensor. It can happen due to voltage spike or other reasons that trigger this condition. Is this transient?Any thoughts guys? This is the second time and I believe exactly a week apart.![]()
