Jul 15 12:44:19 reeftank reef-pi[599]: 2019/07/15 12:44:19 ERROR: Failed to initialize pca9685 driver with mock i2c bus. Error: remote I/O error

It does not find the pca9685 board on the i2c bus, therefore it gives an error...

Just connect the pca9685 board to the Pi.

It is a known bug that still has to be fixed, see page 570 of this thread.

I believe so in 2 places
The config.txt file:
Edit config.txt to include the following lines...

dtparam=i2c_arm=on
dtoverlay=w1-gpio
dtoverlay=pwm-2chan

and in sudo raspi-config
sudo apt-get update -y
sudo apt-get upgrade -y
sudo apt-get i2c-tools

sudo systemctl start ssh.service
sudo systemctl enable ssh.service

sudo systemctl start systemd-timesyncd.service
sudo systemctl enable systemd-timesyncd.service
sudo dpkg-reconfigure tzdata

Go to command line and issue this command and post the results. It should find the pca on an i2c address, if it doesnt, you have wiring issues or a bad pca9685 or somehow i2c isnt enabled correctly.

sudo i2cdetect -y 1

It should come back with address 40 and 70 listed after giving that command.

i2cdetect -y 1 was not recognised , so then I went to the link and run
  1. sudo apt-get install -y python-smbus
  2. sudo apt-get install -y i2c-tools
And was able to see 40 70 as expected.
Much appreciated
Thank you

I removed the prefix and it's still giving me the same error
This will be hard for me to diagnose , the exact setup is working for me. Check in adafruit io dashboard if that token is blocked, regenerate and retry

reef-pi 2.x series , the current public version does not support multiple pcs9685 board.
In 3,0 alpha release this is possible. Each pca9685 can have different frequency. They have solder spots which you can join (jumpers) to change the i2caddress. This is covered in the adafruit guide for that chip

dang, that looks amazing! What type of goniporas are those on the left? Have they spread over that rock that much? How long have you had those? Can you post a closer picture of these?

they are commonly known as micro goniopora. I dont think they are exactly goniopora (like alveopora/goniopora) , they behave very different. They are creazy grower and have really long sweeper tentacle that sting everything. It nuked half of my original goni and killed another goni. I have now contained it in an island, but not sure what i'll do with it in the long run.
They look pretty gorgeous though, they have yellow center and orange/red body.

Where are you located? I may be able to take some off your hands if you wanted to ship them economically. I would love to glue a hunk of these babys to my back wall and let them spread there.

Rip that sucks. I'm located in Florida. It looks like the cheapest shipping would be Priority Mail Express which would take 2 days and cost $25 instead of the $15 one I use with locals near Florida which only takes one day. Overnight shipping would be like $40+. I hope I can find some of this locally because it is so beautiful but have never really seen many of the goni's I have had grow that much and spread. If I cant find this maybe I'll break down and buy some from you :D
