I am planning to attend aquashella as a vendor/exhibit. I’ll use this thread to share aquashella exhibit details, collect feedback , and to connect with others who is attendees.
I’m thinking of setting up a few running controllers . Plan is to showcase different reef-pi capabilities .
I’ll have 10x10’ booth with 6x2’ table . I’ll be traveling from california, hence everything has to fit in a single large suitcase. As of now I have built three 2x1.2’ boards, each with different configurations of reef-pi.
The first one is the simplest reef-pi build , primarily to show case smart plug integration

The second one is a typical all in one controller with adj power strip (wired), temperature and ato module .

and the third one (bottom plexiglass ) will have different probes (ezo ph, temperature ), dosing pump etc.

There will be few additional displays, like the one above that shows different pcb/pre fab controllers , and a touch scree monitor that attendees can use to get a live experience of reef-pi UI.

im still working on mounting the kessil controller and dosing pumps. Will keep you all posted

I would expect your booth will be well visited. I am very interested in your dosing pump solution and which pH probes you have had success with.

Setup looks great. I’m still on the hook for some small table top bits to show, getting those wrapped up soon.

I used American marine pinpoint and few others in past. I currently use scientific atlas scientific ones. I want to use BRS double junction for my next ones. Dosing is all based on 12v peristaltic pumps. As I write this post, i am testing with stepper based peristaltic pumps that will be out in 5.2.
I dont think i'll need stepper based peristaltic pumps for ato or dosing (i do only tropic marine all for reef . But for any thing related to titration will involve precise dosing and ph/colorimeters , which is why stepper support are required in reef-pi. So expect a second generation of dosing+ph that will be deployed in the coming years.

Are you planning to go to all the aquashellas this year?
Unlikely. Time and money both are a challenge. Covid and family are two other non negotiable constrains :) . If those factors change, we'll see. Orlando has dysneyland so i am portraying this as family vacation :) .

I understand that. Was hoping to get to see everything in Chicago.

I have never been chicago. May not be this year, but i'll try to make it in next year. Chicago, denver both are on top of my list. Now that i'll have these exhibits built, next ones should be easier

Nice displays, you're going to have a blast. Back in the day I use to attend and manage lots of trade shows for two-way radios, I loved them.

Details
- main controller : pi 3a, two lm2596 modules , an uln2803 ic. It’s feeds on 12v and to controls the dji power strip .
- sensors : float switch for ato and ds18b20 for temperature .
- dji srp8 power strip. With 8 controllable channel .By default all outlets will be off.
- a 12v kamoer peristaltic pump to be used as ato pump. Can also be used as doser. No speed control

- controller and doser housing are all 3D printed. Pla .

Build guide at adafruit

this controller is not reliant or networking or wifi. One can run it with a physical display and/or as wifi hotspot for observation and administration

Sensors and light controller
a pi 3a with white labs tentacle 3 hat (capable of supporting upto 3 atlas scientific ezo probe). Configured with an ezo ph sensor, a high precision more durable platinum rtd temperature probe and a photo electric (optical ) water level sensor.

On the right is a simple kessil controller :)

heres a close up of the kessil controller. It’s using pi based hardware pwm ,

Smart plug and powerstip demo.
this is the smallest , most minimal demonstration of a reef-pi build using a pi zero.

70F6B625-B274-4EC6-8722-6C897E62C888.jpeg

The controller itself has no extra circuit or sensor. It’s is still capable of controlling various tplink kasa smart plug or power strips .it’s is very good first build for beginner . It allows builders to get comfortable with the reef-pi software without any significant circuit work.
Items in the build:
- tplink kasa hs300 powerstrip
- tplink kasa hs303 powerstrip
- tplink kasa hs104 smart plug
- tplink kasa hs110 smart plug
- raspberry pi zero
- ds18b20 temperature sensor
- float switch
- kamoer 12v dc motor based peristaltic pump
- latching , spst switch for dosing pump
- 3.5 mm , 3 pole audio connectors for probe connections
- microusb cable for pi zero power, connected to kasa power strip
- 12v , 1 amp dc power supply for dosing pump
- controller and doser housing are 3D printed, with pla , using creality ender 3 printer

Thinking about the interactive display. I am going with all three different reef-pi Ui and grafan dashboard for them . This monitor is touchscreen capable and luckily Linux driver works :) . Event attendees can click through the reef-pi ui to change light color /intensity, switch on /off any of the power strip outlet , check out temperature sensor reading etc

Building a light mount for the fake plexi glass tank . This contraption will sit on the tank wall and provide mounting place for a maker beam (10mm) based light stand

did a quick design

This is how it came

Ender 3v2 has been flawless for me. It literally required zero tuning. Just assemble and use the community recommended profile . Very happy with it
