Anyone use Reef Plus? A big zoa collector (jcigars) once told me to use it--actually raved about it. Said his zoas really benefited from it. I know a lot of folks add some sort of sugar to their feedings. This stuff has some in there, along w/amino acids, vitamins & a bunch of other good stuff. I also remember Jimmy taking back what he said about the product & I forget why. I'm almost out & was wondering if I should order more or not.

Yeah I remember the post it was in the zoosrus forum. Rod B. said that the product contains sugars and the sugars made the zoanthids respond in polyp expansion. And also a few people who used it experienced increased algae growth. Once they stopped using the product the algae growth stopped. For me I noticed that Magnesium makes my zoas grow. I dont know for sure if it is my tank conditions or the Mag, but it makes a difference in my opinion.

Well, I have not a speck of any algae in my tank & have been using it for 2 years now. I'd still be interested in testing for mag in my tank though. My zoas aren't growing for crap! Many of the smaller-polyp ones just close up, turn brown & waste away... :(

I think magnesium is essential to all coral's ultimate health.

Haven't used Reef Plus, so I can't comment one way or another, but algae growth is caused by excess nutrients, phosphates, etc. If you overfeed anything like Reef Plus, you will get algae growth. Allot of people make the mistake of thinking "if a little of this stuff works wonders, then more should be even better!". With feedings, that is seldom the case, as the excess just causes algae growth. You probably haven't gotten any algae growth because you feed the right amount. ;)

But I think the main issue is that the product contains sugars that Rod was talking about. Jeni contact Rod to see what his comments are on the product.

be careful and dont' start dumping sugar into your tank until you know why you are doing it and what the consequences, both good and bad, are. you can easily cause a bacterial bloom that will consume all your oxygen and kill your tank.

I've been using it a couple months now. Everything is happy, not sure if the Reef Plus is the reason.

I use to use it by the gallon. I switched to making my own now. I use to dose 3-5 times the suggested dose and it worked very well.
I did get an algae uprise when I started using it heavily-but it went away. good luck
