I am looking at possibly purchasing a UNS reef tank and reached out to local fish store and was asked why not a Red Sea tank? I said I have read some bad things about build quality while investigating new tanks/brands. I was told "Since G2 , Red Sea has not had a single tank issue, it was the older g1 models and now that there on the G3 tanks that leaking is no longer a concern...

Is this true? Not trying to stir stuff I have been away from the hobby since 2012 and trying to make an informed decision. Thanks

I believe what your store told you is objectively false. Among others, there's a specific thread here on R2R that tracks Red Sea failures, here's a recent post from that thread:

This is a G2 Red Sea tank I currently own:

What you’re seeing here is both the front right, and front left vertical silicone seams, peeling away from the short side panes of the tank…

I have never owned a redsea tank, but I currently have a UNS R60. Bought it "used" as it was a display tank from reefapalooza. Got a great deal compared to msrp. The quality is excellent, however ive also only had it for just over a year. I haven't really seen any major issues online or personally yet. I'd say if you can swing the extra cost of the UNS it would be worth it for the quality and peace of mind.

Im currently debating between the Red sea 425 g3 or the UNS r120. I think im gonna have to bite the bullet and just spend the extra money on the UNS and be done with it. We only live once right, lol. Also sucks that the only UNS i find have a $400 freight fee. I have a Top shelf aquatics store 2hrs away but do i risk transportation and losing $5k trying to save $400…

I have two UNS tanks. The quality IMO compares with ADA aquariums. UNS have nice uniform silicone beads. The 45 degree mitered seams are nice. Plus, all the glass panels have chamfered edges.
