Hey everyone,
I’m looking for some advice on who I should reach out to regarding my Red Sea Reefer xl 425.
I am located in Toronto, and I have had the tank for about 5 years. I recently noticed an issue with the silicone/glass seam on the display tank. Because this involves the display tank itself, I am concerned about the long-term safety of the aquarium and my livestock.
I opened a claim with Red Sea and provided my purchase receipt. They told me the aquarium is outside of the 3-year warranty for the aquarium glass, so they are unable to replace it for free. They did offer me a credit of $1,154.67 toward a new Reefer 425 G3 complete system.
I really do appreciate the credit, but even with that credit, a brand-new complete system is still out of my price range. I am currently a 3rd-year university student studying Marine Biology, so replacing the entire aquarium system is not something I can realistically afford right now.
I asked if the credit could be used toward only a replacement display tank, since my stand, sump, plumbing, and other components are all still perfectly fine. Red Sea responded that my current model has been discontinued, and that the G3 glass is not compatible with the older stands, so the entire system would need to be replaced.
Has anyone dealt with something similar before? Is there someone specific at Red Sea, a Canadian distributor, a local fish store, or another contact I should reach out to? I’m not trying to be unreasonable. I’m just trying to figure out what options I have and who would be best to contact.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
