Reefer 450 gate valve conversion drain

I’d like to remove the factory Red Sea diaphragm valve and plumb in a spears gate valve. I saw a video of someone taking the factory twist drain fitting and unscrewing the threaded barb fitting for the return and screwing in 3/4” threaded adapter and that screws into the factory drain valve and your done. Does anyone know if this 3/4” setup will work with the reefer 450 drain? I don’t want to glue in 1” pvc where the screw on piece threads onto the main drain pipe I think that looks hack honestly. Thanks for the help
