i’m switching to a Planet aquarium with2 drains. i don’t think there’s any difference between them, ie not a secondary. i currently have a reefmat 500 on a 425xl that is leaking. so replacing it with the planet.

should i just plug one of the drain holes in the overflow? use a Y to join them and then go to the reefmat? i didn’t think the reefmat was designed to use 2 drains. do i need a gate valve to control the flow?
LFS said connect one drain to a filter sock but that seems to defeat the purpose of the reefmat.

Too many questions, not enough answers. Update please.
yup, thread after thread. nobody answers the main questions. How does plumbing TWO FULL Syphons into the 1200 work best?

Great link, but if you are running two full siphons (larger tanks with dual overflows tend to do so) this will not work. Even if you are running little enough flow for the 1-1/2" Y pipe to accommodate, you will end up with air trapped in the Y. So this helps with those who have one full siphon and one trickle drain, but in regards to Dondante's question, I think they were asking if you could hook up a drain to either side of the Reefmat 1200.
