In reefing you sometimes need to act fast! I moved this Miami Orchid SPS coral colony higher on the reef the other day and unfortunately it did not like that move at all!

By the morning it was turning white (dying) from the base up. ☠️ I believe it to be RTN (rapid tissue necrosis). As soon as I noticed it I chopped the colony in half ✂️ and mounted it a bit lower on the reef. That quick decision helped to save the top half of the coral (green circle). Phew! Happy reefing ya’ll.

It’s weird how just a few inches can change the way acros behave, isn’t it? Good save! Hopefully it recovers ok.

Photo dump - the reef tank is doing great and the corals are growing fast. I’ve recently doubled my trace elements dosing weekly to keep up. Using Quantum products for dosing. I have not been doing water changes for the last couple of months.

My gosh man it looks so awesome!! I’ve always been a fan of the color background that you have and can change. Does so much for the depth of field! Wow dude!

Also, the captive bred Marine Bettas from Biota that we added back in November of 2023 are starting to come out a bit more. They were about 3/4” in size and are now about 2”. When I feed the tank they come out of their caves but still not out in the open. Here are a couple of pics… one lives in the left scape and the other in the right scape:

Setting up an Avast Marine K1 Kalk stirrer. This will be fed by the Tunze auto topoff pump.

I thought about using a doser as a safe guard but it’s more simple for me to run through the top off pump. I live in Florida and do not have evaporation fluctuations and my tank is large enough to handle a worst case scenario from a pump failure causing the top off container to empty into the tank. I also have enough coral to consume the calcium daily.

Things to consider if you are looking to add a kalk stirrer. If you have a small tank or evaporation fluctuations then a dosing pump should be your go to.
