Regal angel not eating

So I got a 5 inch regal angelfish on march 18th and iv tried just about every food possible and it’s like he doesn’t like it! He has eaten live brine shrimp out of the water column but doesn’t go after it again same with live black worms. He doesn’t go for nori but was picking at the mussel part on the clam shell. I just can’t seem to find something he likes! The place I got him said they were feeding hatchery diet pellets but he won’t go after pellets at all! He abdominal is looking a bit skinny today I just don’t know what else to do!

Have you tried food with sponge in it? Hikari sells it along with another common company. It’s labeled angels and butterfly frozen cubes.

Ide buy clams from the local Asian or seafood market. Once it eats the open clam, you add pellets in the clam

Like clams that are still alive cause iv tried the clam on the half shell but he doesn’t really go for the clam but i did see him nipping at the mussel part of the clam

Yeah I have the angel and butterfly one I got from petco and I mixed that with mysis and brine but he doesn’t really go for it either

I don’t think I have a market close by that sells live clams honestly! I do have a seafood market near by but I don’t think the clams are still alive

Try the seafood market, scallops, clam, mussels, whatever they have to try

Hi JD, is your Regal in QT or your DT? I have a 4 " Regal in quarantine right now in a 40 gallon breeder (about 5 weeks) who eats mostly fresh clam, will eat algae but not Nori, and will nibble on a few brine shrimp. It does'nt take much to put these fish off food. They need to feel safe, have hiding spots, and be in a quiet area in your home as they shy at first.
