Removing Cupramine

Is low salinity still an option or is a copper treatment the only choice?

I believe copper (from what I have read) is the only remedy that everyone can agree to. There appear to be a bunch of over methods that seem to have support and detractors. I have also read you shouldn't do both at the same time.

Thank you Jay. In my situation, with live rock and sand when I begin to remove the treatment would you use the Cuprisorb and water change, or just water change?

Sorry, probably should mention my DT is 90g with a basic 10g sump setup, where the water filters through a pad, into bio balls then into the return chamber with a skimmer and return pump (obviously.)

Water changes and then use cuprisorb for any residual works best I think.

Thanks Jay! Every 2 weeks, or more frequently? I have the ability to do roughly 15 gallons / change before I'd have to replenish/make more marine water.

Oh, sorry, I meant more frequently than that. 25% a day for example. If you don’t have the system in place to do that, you’ll have to rely more on absorption and chemical mitigation methods. I like water changes because you get the added benefit of new water, and you are sure it is gone. However, the math works out that towards the end, you are changing water that you just changed, so the copper reduction becomes less efficient, then you turn to other methods.

Thank you Jay. I can reasonably change 15 gallons 2x per week. Should I add Cuprisorb on day 31 then?

I didn’t read trough all the comments but I used a 40 and a 20 gallon to qt for two years.. I did regular water changes and saw starfish star to grow.. I then added small frags of coral.. they are now both coral/frag tanks.
Cupramine isn’t bad, I hear copper power is worse to rid of.. yes I had sand the entire time and also some lr.. do some water changes and wait a month.. u can also test to see if copper is in there.. I did none of that and takes are thriving.

Thank you! Today is day 30, so water change (10%) tomorrow, and Cuprisorb into the sump. I've been testing each morning and will continue until I read 0. Picking up a Hanna this week, because those color charts are a nightmare.

Agreed, keep an update and start w some cheap coral or inverts to be super safe. But like I said through experience, not one issue w cupramine.. I was even selling pods two month later for almost a year from the same system

Hi guys, thanks again for all the great feedback! Other than being wasteful, is there any harm in using more Cuprisorb than recommended? I'm at roughly 100g with the sump, and the 250mL is rated for 150, so I technically should use 2/3, but is there a benefit, or harm associated with using the whole 250mL? Thanks in advance!

Day 31 of Cupramine...15g (100g system) water change, and added the suggested amount of Cuprisorb to the sump. Fingers crossed!

How did this work out for you. I added copper to my DT as well.
