Morning everyone. I removed kalk from my system, was dosing 7500ml a day of fully saturated. Since removing I have slowly upped my dosage of 2 part from 50ml a day to 100ml a day to try to “catch” my alk from dropping too much. I suppose I just keep increasing till it starts to creep back up again unless I am missing something. 100ml a day seems like a lot based on the amount of coral I have but who knows. Figured I would just lean on the experts here in case I am missing something. Trying to avoid losing coral as much as I can.

You can use the AI and tell him you were using 7500ml of fully saturated kalk per day for “side of your tank”…. Ask how much of dkh that is…

Then ask AI how much of additional 2pt you will need to match that dkh…. Go from there.

Instead of cold stopping Kalk. Why didn’t you just lower the dose of Kalk and slowly increase 2 part dosing.

That way, once you get to a point 2 part is fully maintaining and then you can pull the Kalk.

Depending on the concentration of the 2-part you are using it could be about 80 to 280mL extra you’ll need to dose to compensate for 7.5 Liters of kalk. So 50 mL extra is too little.

P.S. please don’t follow previous advice and ask a chatbot chemistry or math questions. Most of the time the answer will be wrong. A chatbot is a text generator, not a calculator.

Or better, ask a human that knows, and leave the ai’s in peace to plot their takeover of the earth.

I did that and had it down to 2000ml a day before stopping. Apparantly the 2000 a day was doing more than I thought.

This is what the ai came up with lol. Actually not far off. But yes verifying everything.

I am dosing 105ml of two part over 24 hours. Not abnormal.

I think it’s important to know the maximum dosing allowed:

Maximum Daily Dose: 1 mL per 1 gallon of aquarium capacity in a 24-hour period.

So, if you have 100Gallon system, your esv 2pt dosing should be lower than 100ml.

Thank you for this. Glad to know there is a ceiling as it looks like I am approaching it. At 200ml a day now and all is still going down but very very slowly.

Why does ESV have a max dose?

Its soda ash based, as are many 2-part systems. I don’t see any reason for an inorganic alkalinity supplement to have an absolute max dose.
Only an undesired pH increase would be a reason, but if and when that happens is highly variable.

The max 1 mL per gallon would mean a max alk consumption of ~2 KH per day. There are plenty tanks using more than that.

Can we see a picture of the tank/ corals?

The ESV KH concentration ChatGPT reports is nonsense.

According to ChatGPT, 1mL of ESV raises the dKH of 1 gallon by 0.1.

That would mean the ESV solution has a KH of 378.

According to ESV the correct number is 7840. One mL of ESV raised the dKH of a gallon of water by ~2.07.

A 1 mL per gallon dose of the normal ESV carbonate two part adds about 2 dKH. A medium/high dose.

There's nothing special about that value and higher is fine.

If they suggest a max dose, that's likely just to idiot proof it against folks not measuring things and who might assume that if some is good, more is better.

7500 ml of saturated kalk per day would have equated to about 150 ml per day of each part of 2 part in my system.

I dosed 210ml o over the last 24 hours which is a 160ml increase since stopping kalkwasser and while my alk doesn’t seem to be going down anymore, it’s not going up either. Will keep watching closely.

Am I just not understanding the number correctly but the bars calculator is similar to the ai numbers.

That’s ALOTS of 2pt you are dosing. And it really matters how you are adding these 2pt to your tank. I have feeling your 2pt dosing is precipitating. Simply neutralizing its effects.

Lots of the times, they will simply precipitate because we are dosing them wrong. and just make everything in your tank rock hard and white over time. You can also get clumps of build ups. You maybe wasting all that you are dosing.
