First reef tank, bought used and cleaning it up now. How would you repair the chewed up spots near the top of this background? I don’t think it will be very noticeable once it’s filled with water and lights are mounted so I’m hesitant to do anything drastic but the OCD part of me wants perfection so trying to strike a balance. Satin or semigloss black paint? Cover with a strip of black vinyl? Peeling the whole thing and re doing it sounds difficult but maybe it isn’t 🤷‍♂️. Disregard the adhesive from LED light strips stuck to the back, just talking about the top damaged part. Thanks!

That vinyl is actually really easy to remove and apply. I would peel it all off, and redo it all with new. You can order the vinyl material, or check locally at sign shops. This video shows you how to apply it:

Good luck!

You can peel it off and paint it black, Rustolium and a small foam roller, or even spray paint works, but I've painted a lot of tanks over the years and after recently trying vinyl, I don't think I'll ever paint another tank again 🙂

I second painting with a roller. It's so much easier to scrape off later if you need vs spray paint. Pretty easy to touch up also should it get scraped.
A quick fix would be to cover the spot with some black vinyl tape like electrical tape
