Hi, I was wondering how do mushroom corals reproduce and spread? I have several fab specimens that grow and open up under my lights but how would they spread? Also I don't really know what picture 1 is, I bought it from Lfs as a colony but Im not sure other than mushrooms lol. Picture 2 is a recently bought rhodactis mushroom which I love as I have never seen a hairy mushroom before. I am hopeful that they will grow and populate the bottom of the aquarium, I just wondered how.

Mushroom corals can reproduce in four different ways.

1-Sexually releasing egg and sperm into the water.
2-Laceration. When they move they can leave a piece behind that will grow into a new one.
3-Fission. When the shroom gets large it can split itself into.
4-Budding.Forming a soft tissue particle and shedding it off to create another.

They are also easily propagated with a scalpel.

my Yuma just made a baby by means of pedal laceration. that green dot above the shrooms used to be a piece of its foot as it was moving further down the rock. interestingly it did not have any colour until complete separation from the mothers foot
