As the title says, I am setting up a tank...again. It is a 120 with a bean style overflow. Last set up has a dual 40b sump, but never fully utilized. I also ran Kessil, but have since sold them. I have a dual MH light I am planning on using and a bashsea skimmer. Everything else is in the air.

Help me figure out what is wanted and needed to make this a successful reef please!

It sounds like you're taking your time and doing your research, which are fundamental in success with this hobby. So you're getting starting on the right foot for this round. :)

I'd say what you need to do now is determine what type of reef you're after before you can move forward with additional planning and building. On a side note, I love my Bean Animal overflow, so I think you'll be quite pleased.
