Why does someone have to insult democracy to make a point about bad faith posters... And there is a huge irony in "not wanting to see these threads in the feed" yet you make a thread so the rest of us see it...

If I sound matter-of-fact it's because I'm just responding to the tone of the original post, mainly to point out the irony.

I lurked R2R for over a year before I signed up. I also lurked the other reef-centric sites. I chose to sign up at R2R because of the low-drama, clean and friendly atmosphere here. You and your team have done an outstanding job of curbing the nasty, rude, and sometimes cruel mentalities that all the other sites seem to tolerate.

In the past week, I've seen an uptake in the aforementioned drama spill into the general membership's view. I've also seen you, and your team attempt to deal with it calmly, tactfully, and with as much grace as possible.

I've also witnessed the backlash of what happens when a thread is locked, heavily moderated and even deleted.

Let me be clear, and get to the point of my thread: You were in the right. You did what you had to do to maintain the value and substance of this forum that stands above the rest. Please dont stop.

This place is not a democracy. It is not a place where people enjoy the right to question every decision of leadership. It is a place where people can come and feel comfortable asking questions and help others without the fear of being slammed for not knowing the exact composition of molecules in a single strand of GHA.

This is not a corporation. Theres not an employee base here. 99% of the main players are volunteers. No realistically inclined person expects all #reefsquad replies to be 100% accurate all the time. Nor do they expect yours, or your staff members hard decisions to be popular to 100% of R2R members.

There is a small group of people that are attempting to start a riot. They've hidden behind initial phrases that put them in a "I'm the victim, no disrespect meant" role, then they tear your staff to shreds, claiming to do so for the love of R2R.

As a normal member, I'm tired of seeing these threads in the active thread list. I'm tired of reading pages and pages of bickering, and veiled insults. This is not the R2R I signed up for, and I'm sure you know it.

Please know that you and your entire team have more support than you know. Unfortunately, some people are determined to incite chaos are simply louder than the rest. It's always like that, everywhere, all over the world.

Dont dismay. This is your house. Dont hesitate to fight for it.

So I beg you: Lock the threads, ban the IPs, delete the posts, unleash the dogs of war because they are attempting to ruin your site. Dont let the quiet majority down and stomp this fire out before it burns too hot. Get some.

I just wanted to say I find the phrases “as a normal member” and “the quiet majority” semi-terrifying, if unintentionally hypocritical. As a self-declared “normal member” you then call for the “dogs of war” to be unleashed, you demand the overt oppression and banishment of those you apparently define as aberrant and therefore beneath you. History is full of the horrors that result when the folks in power capitulate to the loud and never ending calls of the few to force their self-defined standards of what’s “good” or “right” on everyone else. I for one hope that R2R never even remotely resembles an authoritarian regime bent on doing the will of the self-declared chosen people. Open your mind, open your heart, and realize your views did not descend from mount Olympus, and neither did mine. Take your boot off the throats of those that offend you. Your views need to stand on their own merits or give way to the views that can. That’s how we learn, grow, and thrive as a community.

The OP is correct - it is not a democracy. The administrators and owners are totally free to decide whatever they want to decide. But - the administrators of the site have also said they are friendly, family friendly, and many other things - so - I hope as they consider the OP's post - that they also consider the goals for this site. It doesn’t have to be a democracy, it just can’t resemble the Third Reich and maintain my support (and I don’t believe it will start taking cues from despots). OP’s implicit yet transparent self-declaration of belonging to a superior class of members, as well as OP’s absolutely direct call for a cleansing of the memberships he or she doesn’t like is frankly the stuff of an Orwellian nightmare.

Man. I’m never trying to start an argument but everyone needs to settle down. I come here to get answers mainly (I’m a pretty new to this) if I happen to make some online buddies or buy some good equipment for cheap Awesome! If not oh well I still learned something from someone experienced in something I don’t know enough about. I don’t care if I agree with what your saying, I can’t count how many times over my working career I have disagreed with what someone was telling me but in the end they were right and I had to swallow my pride and carry on. If you disagree with someone than don’t do it. Or try it and see if it works they may know something you don’t. Also in my past working experience management has been put in place because they earned it. So let them do there thing, most of the time no matter how much you complain about management there still management and they are there for a reason and deep down they don’t have time for your complaints so if you gotta go than you gotta go. It probably won’t be management that goes. But ya all are welcome to keep on complaining. I love this site and I think you all are doing a great job keep it up. And thank you everyone else for helping me with my tank because it’s about my tank mainly and you all have keep it going.

Pretty sure one of the MAIN reason the mods exist is to deal with the complaints and issues brought up by regular members. If they don't have time for them than I'm not sure what they are doing?? This isn't management at a regular business.

And BTW I love this site too, I've advanced a fair bit in a lot of aspects of this hobby solely due to this website and the members in it.

Its ok here - to quote or comment on others quotes with which you disagree. i.e the complaints you perceive - and why. Frankly - im interested in what exactly you mean with the above. you im sure realize that you can use the quote button to reference what you're trying to address. I hope you do in all sincerity
