I lurked R2R for over a year before I signed up. I also lurked the other reef-centric sites. I chose to sign up at R2R because of the low-drama, clean and friendly atmosphere here. You and your team have done an outstanding job of curbing the nasty, rude, and sometimes cruel mentalities that all the other sites seem to tolerate.

In the past week, I've seen an uptake in the aforementioned drama spill into the general membership's view. I've also seen you, and your team attempt to deal with it calmly, tactfully, and with as much grace as possible.

I've also witnessed the backlash of what happens when a thread is locked, heavily moderated and even deleted.

Let me be clear, and get to the point of my thread: You were in the right. You did what you had to do to maintain the value and substance of this forum that stands above the rest. Please dont stop.

This place is not a democracy. It is not a place where people enjoy the right to question every decision of leadership. It is a place where people can come and feel comfortable asking questions and help others without the fear of being slammed for not knowing the exact composition of molecules in a single strand of GHA.

This is not a corporation. Theres not an employee base here. 99% of the main players are volunteers. No realistically inclined person expects all #reefsquad replies to be 100% accurate all the time. Nor do they expect yours, or your staff members hard decisions to be popular to 100% of R2R members.

There is a small group of people that are attempting to start a riot. They've hidden behind initial phrases that put them in a "I'm the victim, no disrespect meant" role, then they tear your staff to shreds, claiming to do so for the love of R2R.

As a normal member, I'm tired of seeing these threads in the active thread list. I'm tired of reading pages and pages of bickering, and veiled insults. This is not the R2R I signed up for, and I'm sure you know it.

Please know that you and your entire team have more support than you know. Unfortunately, some people are determined to incite chaos are simply louder than the rest. It's always like that, everywhere, all over the world.

Dont dismay. This is your house. Dont hesitate to fight for it.

So I beg you: Lock the threads, ban the IPs, delete the posts, unleash the dogs of war because they are attempting to ruin your site. Dont let the quiet majority down and stomp this fire out before it burns too hot. Get some.

Thank you and you make some very valid points as well. I will be sure to include them in our feedback discussions with the team.

You can call it whatever you want and still be wrong. Read it all. And most importantly read the conclusion if both of them. While things got heated as most debates do, I dare you to point out where anyone was attempting to start a "Riot" ?

I appreciate the sentiment of your post. I also understand that most members don't want to see or deal with these kind of topics. The majority of people just want to come on, chat with the friends they have made, learn some things, and go about their business. I get that. It's really what the staff here would like to do, also.
Conversations that have been occurring recently can be important, even if they aren't always comfortable. I think I speak for all of the staff when I say that we are comfortable with the decisions we make. We do our best to do our work behind the scenes where most members won't notice. Unfortunately, situations arise where people may not feel we are acting in the best interest of our members. We could easily silence those individuals (which I'm sure many members would love) but we want to make R2R as transparent as possible. We want members to trust that we don't hide negative comments about vendors. We don't arbitrarily delete posts because we don't agree with the content. And as I hope is obvious, we want people to be able to express themselves in an open and honest manner as long as it is done respectfully.

I understand that many people are turned off by these discussions but I hope that by allowing them to occur we can improve as a staff and maintain the trust of our members.

That thread turned into a civil discussion and there is no need to lock the thread. If the thread were to have been locked, nothing would have been resolved. That’s what I like about this place. Let’s have fun all!

I have no clue what everyone is talking about. I didn’t see the threads. So I have no opinion on that. Just wanted to say that I love this forum, I’m grateful for its existence. And I hope that it continues to be an available and comfortable place for ppl to learn. God bless

Care to name those people - I'm sure I'm one of them. Of course I have also said - I love this site - I pay money to this site - and I dont go to any other sites. I personally would feel a huge personal loss if I wasnt able to read/participate in this site - and that is heartfelt. Maybe its not about my posts. If so though - you are very 'off the mark'.

Actually I did try to start a riot - but that was years ago.... not here.

100% calling it out.
I wish you would be specific - what were you calling out - you didnt mention people - or specific threads. If something has 'spilled into the general memberships view' - what was it? I support you actually - I want an open forum - I welcome your criticism of myself. But - its an open forum.

Many of you don't know me I have been around a lot longer then my join date and I can say by allowing the open discussions that we have on this site will only improve the site yes it gets heated at times. But that is life in the end everybody comes to understand hopefully. I have the upmost respect for Rev and the team here there job is not easy you can't make everybody happy all the time but they come close. They keep a open mind and listen to people and use that to improve the site. Just want to say thanks Michael

The house is an open house. Maybe I'm wrong. Polite people who *EDITED - DISagree are welcomed in this house (@revhtree) correct me if im wrong. I think your 'get some' is completely insulting and inappropriate. Please feel free to 'ban my IP'. I think banning IPs does happen in some parts of the world - by some governments. If something I've said is so heretical - that my IP needs to be banned - Its ok. But I hope there is some official response to this kind of post - that suggests censorship is the right answer.

It’s a forum about fish and corals! Everybody needs to lighten up!!!

Dan Right!

We all need to grab something to help us calm down, meditation, relaxation, inebriation or just an over the counter chill pill and let us try and tone down these environmental discussions that focus on what we can't fix and fix what we can.

Post only nice comments. (edit The site is glitching with all the

I hope my messages don't offend anyone. I'm hopelessly addicted to this site and reefing, so if I get band I'll be sad but my wife would be happy to see me again. HTH.
