Are you limited by the doorway into the basement or are you having it built on-site? A depth of 36" would be really sweet!

I would put a lot of thought into the filtration system and sump layout. What drives me nuts the most about a typical sump layout is how detritus collects. Finding a way to setup a system that can make detritus clean-up and water changes easy would be #1 on my list.

I would suggest a still water pre-sump that would allow stuff to settle before moving on to the main sump. This should reduce the need for filter socks or mechanical filteration. Or maybe mangroves and and macro algae bed.

Both would add more volume and reduce maintenance.

Well don't get too excited! There isn't much of anything to show yet but I am planning this big tank and I need your help!

The wife and I have leased a house for the past 8 years and this Friday we will be owners of a new home. More importantly it has a huge finished basement with plenty of wall space and there is already an exterior area between the basement walls and the outside house walls. BIG spaces for a dedicated tank room behind the tank.

I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS TO BECOME A REALITY SINCE I HAVE BEEN IN THE HOBBY!

This will be my first build of this size and I need your help to figure it all out.

Tank: The tank is a 400+ (finalizing sizes) @Planet Aquarium tank. The tank is 96" x 36" x 24" tall.

Before I get to any more details. What are some things I need to do to prepare for a tank this size?

I am thinking these are some things:

1. Install a floor drain
2. Install dedicated power box
3. Install ventilation
4. Waterline and Sink

What else? Make sure you have enough power outlets and a 20 amp service. Think about ceiling mounts if needed for lights etc.

Haven’t you noticed Rev, everyone just loves pictures. Blurry, ugly sandbed, dirty glass. None of that matters, everyone just wants to see pictures of one anothers tanks. You could post a picture once a week of that toad stool from a different angle and everyone would just sigh, “so beautiful” .
It is so beautiful btw. I watched the video on BRS. It was fun, and felt like I got to know you a little bit. ;Happy

@revhtree I just discovered you have a Tank Thread. VERY Nice tank.

Those photo's of your SPS Frags encrusting and growing on your Rock is what I dream of.
Some are becoming mini SPS Colonies. Beautiful Coloration too!!
I get so far (some encrustment, growth, even color), then then FULL TILT Flop. I'm not looking to get to a fully Grown out SPS tank. Baby steps first. Survival of SPS just like you got.

Going to dig thru your past to find out your secrets. Lots of threads show SPS colonies past your point.
Any photo update? How much have your SPS progressed since this last photo?

Well dang, you should be very proud.

Thank you but I lost all of my SPS except some montipora. This last batch of hair algae and my plan to kill it also took out the sps I think. I'll be working to make it better again! I am just now finally rid of the algae.

That's unfortunate, but when one door closes, another door opens.

I look forward to seeing an obnoxious onslaught of wickedly colored SPS.
