When my wife & I lived in London, our neighbour across the hall was this determined Italian lady who was a retired lecturer. I learned just today that she passed away on 26 May 2016 at the age of 94. :(

Bruna was the realest person I've ever known. When she asked how you were doing, she really wanted to know. My wife & I spent numerous evenings in her company, eating English cookies & drinking Martini Rosso in her flat. We talked about politics, the weather, current events, gossiped about the other neighbours, etc. ;) We would always share photos from our most recent holiday with Bruna, and she would show us pictures of Italy and when she was a beautiful young lady. :)

We last saw Bruna around 4 1/2 years ago, whilst on vacation in Europe. She still lived in the same flat that she had lived in for more than 50 years. We almost went back this Christmas to see her again, but other obligations prevented that from happening. :( We had been keeping in touch with her via email lately, as she was having a hard time hearing us over the phone. I was told today that she had been in poor health for over a year now, but she never mentioned that to us. Proud to the end.

They just don't make people like that anymore. I so regret that we didn't go see her one last time over Xmas or email her more often. Keep your older loved ones close to your heart, because one day you'll wake up and they'll be gone...

Thanks y'all. The sad thing is as far as I know, this thread is the only tribute to her life. I couldn't even find an obituary. She only had one known relative at the time of her passing.

Sorry to hear this sad news @Humblefish. It's these kind of people that we come upon and get to know in our life journey that makes things so special.

Sorry for your loss.....obviously had an impact on your life.....sounds like an interesting person and one we would all like as a neighbor.

To the most genuine person I've ever known: Dr. Bruna Hofmann.

I drink Martini Rosso tonight to honor you, on the first year of your passing.

:( I remember when you first made that post. It was only a couple months after I joined this wonderful community. I wasn't familiar with anyone here yet but this thread brought me to tears. She sounds like a woman that anyone would have been blessed to know. Also a stark reminder for us younger folks. My grandpa is getting weaker and losing health, I love him but not nearly enough. Nor do I have the respect for him that I aught to.
I'm sorry I didn't mean to go off track. I know that Ms. Bruna's passing is still a hard one, but I think it's beautiful that you honor her memory.
