When my wife & I lived in London, our neighbour across the hall was this determined Italian lady who was a retired lecturer. I learned just today that she passed away on 26 May 2016 at the age of 94. :(
Bruna was the realest person I've ever known. When she asked how you were doing, she really wanted to know. My wife & I spent numerous evenings in her company, eating English cookies & drinking Martini Rosso in her flat. We talked about politics, the weather, current events, gossiped about the other neighbours, etc. ;) We would always share photos from our most recent holiday with Bruna, and she would show us pictures of Italy and when she was a beautiful young lady. :)
We last saw Bruna around 4 1/2 years ago, whilst on vacation in Europe. She still lived in the same flat that she had lived in for more than 50 years. We almost went back this Christmas to see her again, but other obligations prevented that from happening. :( We had been keeping in touch with her via email lately, as she was having a hard time hearing us over the phone. I was told today that she had been in poor health for over a year now, but she never mentioned that to us. Proud to the end.
They just don't make people like that anymore. I so regret that we didn't go see her one last time over Xmas or email her more often. Keep your older loved ones close to your heart, because one day you'll wake up and they'll be gone...
