RO Water System - Where did you install?

I haven’t installed mine yet, it’s just sitting in the bathroom, but my wife showed me a picture of a fish store a few days ago where they installed it onto a cart so it can be wheeled around and I thought that was a pretty cool idea because I think if I installed it under my sink there wouldn’t be a lot of room for anything else lol

But where do you put the cart?
The important part to take away from this is to fill in a place (bathtub/shower) that has a drain. So when you get a phone call or elbow deep in your tank. When you jug overflows it is not going to hurt anything...

Indeed but the more critical feature of the cart in the case where all installation points would be awkward, is that you can put it away somewhere between uses

It wouldn’t even have to be a cart, really, I was thinking a carry handle would be just as good

With RO / DI water, a float valve is pretty reliable. Granted, my setup is in the garage but I have been using the same float valve for 20 years. I’ve changed the ASO valve a few times but I’m still on my 20 year old 32 gallon brute and float valve.

I've got a big 400gpd unit that I just hook up to the shower whenever I need new rodi and then take off the hoses and stow it away again, pretty comfortable and quick

I have my RODI system installed under a sink inside my laundry room. My garage with 55 gallon barrels is 20 feet away. I run an RODI line in between. When the RODI is off the RODI line fits nicely under the sink too.

My filter is installed under the sink in the laundry.

The output goes directly to a 10 gal RO reservoir in a cupboard near to the fish tank.

The reservoir uses an AutoAqua Smart ATO RO to auto refill directly from the filter when it is empty. (http://www.autoaqua.com.tw/en/sato-460v.html)

That way I never have to manually refill the ATO container and I never have to worry about an overflow.

Helps a great deal as I travel a lot for business.

I plumbed it in behind my tank in my Man cave. The water goes through the RO unit then up to the DIY DI chamber next to the blue bucket which it fills. From there it flows by gravity to a float valve on the tank.

(I don't have a sump)

There is a DIY float in the bucket that connects to a DIY mercury switch from an old thermostat which shuts off the electric valve that feeds the water to the RO.

It has not failed in decades. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

That is an antique XL Diatom filter up on the shelf with an old Eheim filter next to it. I have not used either in many years and if anyone wants them, come and get them. :)

Mine is under my bathroom sink. Use a valve splitter that way when I turn the water pressure on it goes straight to the rodi unit.

Mine is under the sink in the kitchen. I only do 5g for water changes so I can set my 5g container in the sink just in case I don't catch it when full.

I used to keep my 2x 50g plastic barrels in the downstairs bathroom bathtub and MANY times it saved me from my forgetfulness lol. But since my move I now set it up in the garage. I’m in Ontario Canada and wasn’t sure how this would go due to the winter temperatures. This was my first winter and it wasn’t bad at all… but this is a new home build and the garage walls and doors are insulated, one barrel is for salt mix and the other straight RO. I did place a heater in the salt mix one and none in the other. The salt mix held temp all winter and the RO got cold but never froze at all. Quite impressed with the fist winter and in the future I will probably move it into the basement but as of right now that won’t be an option.

I have a 4 stage that fits perfectly in this bag. There are pockets inside where I keep extra tubing, attachments and filter replacements. I have a y valve on the cold water line for my washing machine with a shut off. I place the Rodi system on my washer and my water bucket in the utility sink. I keep the Rodi unit stored in the bag in the garage when it's not in use. Prior to the y valve install I hooked to a hose bib outside set the unit on the front porch to fill water buckets. Mine is in a corner of the basement, there wasn't a faucet or hose bib nearby to tap into, so I cut into an existing cold water line and ran a dedicated line to the RO unit. It sounds more complicated than it actually is. The only soldering was one copper-to-pex fitting, the rest is Pex A, which uses compression rings and flexible pipe. I never soldered before so I got some extra fittings and practiced on scrap copper pipe.
