Wanted to get some advice regarding RFAs. I had two that had died on me. The first time I added one was around this time, and I bought it from a local seller. Then, within the next couple of weeks, it died on me. I'd figured my ReefCasa system at the time was still not mature and waited a little while. So sometime in the springtime, I got a Rainbow BTA from the same seller, and it is still thriving. The RBTA split around the summer and decided to place them into another Waterbox system with another BTA. My system is over a year old, and some months now. I bought an RFA online last week, and tried to add it to the ReefCasa system. Within 48hrs, it died on me.....I notice it was being torn a part up by the amphipods, and disposed of it, preventing it from contaminating my tank. While I had the recent RFA when it was living, it looked stressed, but I hoped to give it time to adjust, and I did noticed amphipods irritate it when living and relocated it to another spot in the tank.
My parameters are within range, and I do biweekly WC according to my testing with phosphate and nitrate results. The ReefCasa is well established with SPS & LPS, and I have been dosing AFR for a while now. One thing I may assume is that the PH difference: ReefCasa is located in the basement, and the Waterbox is in the living room on the 1st floor.
I will be transitioning livestock from the ReefCasa to an IM system on the same floor as the Waterbox within the next couple of weeks. I would someday love to have an RFA in my IM system one day. A lot of people say RFA and BTA are hardy creatures but I guess every system is different.....Any input would be great!
