Hi , since i have read you can not test phosphates in fresh water (rodi ), i added salt (Instant Ocean)in a half a cup of water( in glass measuing cup) no plastic leeching ) to make it the salinity we want 35 part salinity give or take. I used hanna 736 ULR checker , and got a reading of 48 , 2nd test reading of 70 , then tested dt tank water reading of 0.

My rodi membrane and DI are bout 2 years or a bit less, and carbon sediment filter probably 8months to 1 years

Do you guys have experience and finding that instant ocean contains alot of phosphate ?
Model of rodi unit CSPDI-90 (spectrapure)

There are a lot of factors and variables. Consider trying an ICP test to get your initial baseline reading that you can compare with your own test kits. The ATI ICP test will also do your RODI water which is nice —- It’s also one of the cheaper of the three or four ICP offerings out there.

Second — two years for your DI??!! That sounds a bit long unless you have super clean water to start with. I need to replenish my DI resin at least every 3-4 months.

I’ve only used two salts in my reefing time: Instant Ocean Reef Crystals for the first two years then moved to LiveAquaria salt. Reef Crystals always had a lot of build up.

There’s a BRS video on the clarity of different salts and the readings they got after storing for different lengths. I’ll see if I can find the YouTube link. L

I know this doesn’t answer your question directly, but Instant Ocean is used in this test they run. It’s a common salt and usually there shouldn’t be any phosphate issues with the salt.

I found this video very insightful and made me really think about how I mix my salt and store it.

Cheers and Happy Reefing.
