1-I am using Clarisea new 40 meter roll which I had to re-roll onto the aquamaxx inner tube and it’s 9 inches, using the actual aquamaxx supplies rolls it should be 8.5 inches.

2-height should be from the top of the 90 inlet to no more than 1.5 inches above to create head pressure and make the rolls last longer. You can have it higher but just be prepared to go through a roll every 5-10 days.

Seems like an old thread but still going to follow along.. I have a trigger system triton 44 sump and before cutting and modifying the acrylic I want to see how these preform
I too have the v1 of the trigger triton sump. I couldn't deal with not having some type of solid mechanical filter after running it for a few years. I bought the bubble magus medium and unfortunately it is quite large. So I am going to cut my sump this weekend as it's taking up so much of the refugium space I can not effectively use my chato or put the skimmer in it with that. I am going to remove the inlet brackets and cut back that inlet chamber wall to accommodate and thin the euro bracing down so it can hang off the back. Once done I may honestly move my skimmer to the 1st chamber as I have hated having my skimmer down stream of my chato.

I came across another users thread where she reached out to trigger system and they sent over what was needed to convert it to the v2

LOL so to fix a solution that replaced socks in the first place is to add a sock? - Only in this hobby.

no noise except for the momentary buzz .

Install for me was a bit of pain. My water level is so high I had use only the last 2 screws to hang on the back leave the other 2 on top of the hanging bracket and it’s still a bit low. Issue number one encountered already....wife yelling at me that the roller is stuck on, confused I ran down stairs to the tank and to my amazement, a small trouchus snail was stuck in between the fleece and the back panel causing it to jam. It actually ripped the fleece, that’s how stuck it was. So now, I will have it on my apex and allow it to go only 20 seconds max for power then it will shut off. Protection plan. Improvements for the next gen I guess, my guess is if we didn’t stop the motor it would’ve been burned out for sure and that would’ve sucked. Lol All things considered, I really like it! So far so good. Fingers crossed no other snails will get stuck in there.

you guys drill out acrylic much. I need to drill a couple extra mounting holes to raise the roller higher. Scared I am going to crack the panel. Ugh...

Sharp bits and go slow.
Dull bit and fast turns create heat melt the plastic get stuck and then crack it.

So many reviews on the roller mat systems overall.
My two go too trusted resource are opposed on the subject.

First resource says these are the next thing since sliced bread.
A game changer in the mechanical filtration world.

Second resource says we tried them all but, ultimately all failed on one or more levels.
Not just equipment failures but overall function and use.

So for me is about are they worth it on the whole over what brand is best.

Hey @Kentarokun if you go back to the first page of this thread and see the measurements that @BBLINKS has posted are as accurate as they are. I have received mine but haven't installed it yet but when I did receive I did match the measurements and they are accurate. I hope this helps you in making the decision.

I bought one for a new tank setup. I will be plumbing it in soon. I plan on having a Y with 2 valves to where I can divert water away from the Aquamaxx to a regular filter sock. Any thoughts on that?

I recently converted my filter sock bean animal drain to the AF1 rollermat.
I added a 2nd sump to install the rollermat, gravity fed overflow into the original sump.
Plumbed the primary and secondary drains into a Y then into the AF1’s 1.5 inch drain.
So far the new setup is working well with a few issues:
1. My water level is too high in the 2nd sump and causes excessive use of the roller mat filter, I am looking at a roll every 2 weeks for my 130gallon system. So that’s expensive
2. The dirty filter is dropping dried dusts (detritus caught by the filter) into the sump. I tried fixing it with painter tape (see photo)
3. The filter is letting through detritus, the bottom of my brand new sump is fairly dirty two weeks into operation. This is after I chalked the seams... one side chalking came undone probably due to stress of the plumbing into the drain. I also noticed things like freeze dried worm seeping through the filter. Not sure how that’s possible but I saw half of a worm hanging out the other day.

I got mine from Marine depot. It worked great, the only problem now is, that they sold out of the roller paper, and now that they have it in stock is seems like the new paper is a different micron. It literally keeps the water inside above my water line by 4 inches, which means I have to turn it off or all the paper will roll out in a week or so. I had to remember to turn it on every night to roll a little or program it to the neptune...it really sucks. I had 3 rolls prior and they worked great, but the next 2 I bought were terrible. I ordered 2 more I hope the new ones are better.

Want to put a roller filter in my system and was leaning towards the Clarisea SK-5000 (6" filter material). However, I just saw that Aquamaxx has a 6" roller filter for about $175 less.

Anyone with opinions or knowledge of the two? At almost half the price adn similair specifications the Aquamaxx is tempting.
Never used the clarisea but for the price my af1 gets the job done just fine 1 roll last about 2 months

Howdy, your last sentence is concerning, about letting the detritus through, any change on this or is this still happening?
