First off who has BTA’s and what are your favorite lights that have helped them thrive for 2+ years(obviously I want longer but some people haven’t been in the hobby for 5+ years…)

2.
what should I be looking for in a light? Is Par really everything? Controllability?(honestly would like to set it and it runs itself!) is brand name worth it or just a bunch of bull?

3.
how many should I have for my tank?(150 gallon 30 gal sump. 4 ft x 2 ft deep x 32 inch tall)

4.
should I go used? Is it worth it to buy like used radions or something like that?

5.
I plan on an anemone tank couple carpets mainly BTA’s and a clownfish harem in the next 2 years. I have 4 BTA’s in there and am wondering if I need more light now? All I got in there now is 2 100w nicrew lights which were used by the last owner with 2 large carpet nems. (I am starting out slow because I have already got nearly $3k into this tank and am about to go buy a house.)

thanks for all your thoughts and help! You guys are awesome!

I've got clone line going back to the mid 90s and for the most part they don't seem to care a whole lot as long as they can hide if intensity is too high. I've known some to do well for years with jsut moderate light.

Well then… 3 out of 4 are now under rocks… but it’s only been a since Thursday that I have had them. One hid within first 20 minutes the other 2 after the first day. I have lights all the way up because I was scared this light wasn’t going to be enough.
You think I should turn it down for a little or wait it out?

I guess nobody has kept their BTA’s thriving for more than 2 years?!

It would be interesting to know how long people have them but I have 3 clone lines I've had fo ryears. The tank below has all three, a brown orginally purchased in the mid 90s, a teal w/ pink tips acquired around 2005-2006 and a rose acquired in 2012. Lighting has changed over the years initially being T5s, then BMLs then PopularGrow (ebay) which is currently on the system. PAR varies between ~150 at the top to ~30 at teh bottom.

I've had bubble tips for a few years with kessil. If you want carpet nems they require more. I'd recommend either 8 bulb T5 or a T5 hybrid. Or you could go all in and get metal halide.

I got my first BTA during the end of 2015 (looking back at my photos right now and wow time flies by lol). I attached some pics of when I first got my first nem and then it multiplying in the 120 I had it in. I’ve used Radions G4 which are my favorite lights and the anemones have been happy :).

I started with 1 now im over 150. they loved 175w MH se with 2 VHO atinic

With leds im running 10% B and 1 % W or they hide under rocks. They do not need large amounts or par.

Under rocks is because lights are to bright. I have no clue what you have. But 3w led chips are bright and at 50% I had no growth and at 60% everything receded and they stayed under the rocks.

The above nems are happy now that they are under 10% B and 1% W in a 210g 30" deep tank. Somewhere in my tank there is apiece of a 30 year old somewhere, thats when I bought the 1 these all came from. all 150

This is all them now at feeding time (sorry for the messy tank) :). I moved them into this new bigger tank last summer and now use two Radion G5’s with one of the G4’s. I am running a custom version of the AB+ light schedule where the tank runs 40% whites and 100% blues from 12:30pm to 4pm. After 4pm it then it ramps down to 20% whites and 100% blues throughout the day. I have been also experimenting with combining different color strains of BTAs in the big display. Hopefully the video plays.

Almost any lights that will grow coral will work.

Mine aren't quite 2 years old yet, but I have mine in a 29g tank and just use a couple of the smaller kessils.

Thank you! Just adjust the lights slowly and you’ll find the sweet spot for your nems :).

Brs did a video series on a 120 gallon Clownfish harem tank.
Search "Brstv clownfish harem tank" they ended up using a 48" ATI powermodule LED T5 hybrid $1,885.95 to $2.014.95

You can always turn them back up, mine love less light, and they come out and extend up trying to reach the light, when they hide you know its to bright for them. Its not hard to see a happy nem ;)
