I think that is what we all try to do :D I like the simple method also. I am looking at starting up a second tank and I really like the cube you have.

I got extremely lucky with the price. tank(pre drilled bottom) overflow plumbing, stand, sump and a cheapy return pump, its a rio 2500 for 350$ (sump is on the smaller side, but does the job)
really couldnt be happier right now. putting in the Buble Magnus Curve 5 protein skimmer tomorrow. will buy a Kessil A360WE in a few weeks, then its basically complete minus live stock which im not going to add until early July.

Really enjoying the way its coming together.
Kept the A360WE and happy I did. I know some don't like the extensive shimmer, but I sure enjoy it.
Don't mind the chords. Doing some cable management here shortly.

That whole tank is likely already cycled, nice insta setup~ you can tell by the pics. Still no rush, but the bac are as established now as they will be after three additional yrs in your tank, neat bac factoid provided that's true coralline and not painted. Looks true.

Where goes coralline, so does a fully complete bio filter.

yeah its fully cycled, I'm attempting to take my time this go around. The rock is all "real reef rock" fully cured, real coralline.
Previous tank i got too excited and did too much too soon and had to play the recovery game. Not going through that again lol.
