My tank is a 32 biocube, recently cycled. I am running chemi elite, purigen and chaeto as far as media. Aragonite dry sand - 20lbs. 40lbs live rock. Tank finished cycling 2 weeks ago. I always tested with API test kits to monitor progress. I tested with Salifert today as it came in the mail today.

I was always using API test kits, but recently bought a ammonia, no2, no3 and PH Salifert test kits.

My most recent testing in as follows: Ammonia 0, no2 0, no3 <1, alk- 7/8, salinity 1.025 and here is where it gets tricky with the PH. As far as I knew, any PH test, even API, was for the most part accurate. API shows 8.0 and Salifert show 7.4. If anyone is familiar with the Salifert test kit, my color matches the white square below 7.4.

All the fish seem perfectly fine, so should I buy a different brand test kit to confirm? I measured PH twice both on API and Salifert to confirm results.

Salifert did not specify a waiting period for PH test result to wait, so I waited 5-8 minutes before checking results as well as right after mixing.

Any help would be appreciated.

The pH 7.4 almost certainly isn’t accurate. In general, I do not recommend pH kits since they are hard to verify accuracy. If you choose to measure pH, a pH meter with two point calibration is the way to go.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing about the 7.4 reading. I’m thinking either the salifert kit I got was “bad” or maybe I didn’t wait long enough for results.

I had a new salifert kit I was using this past year that rarely registered over 8.0 on my tank and on another tank and I was dripping kalk. Once I finished that kit my new salifert kit is reading 8.3, it even has a little blue tint to it. I have yet to test new mixed saltwater to see where it falls.
