Quick question, on my nano and my 90 I have kept a consistent 1.024. Some people are saying that's way to lowbut I've had not really any issues. I have fish and coral and no problem. What is everyone's thoughts? Should I raise it or keep up what I have been doing?

I would raise it. I do not know of any reason to target a level different than the ocean average, 35 ppt, sg = 1.0264.

That said, salinity has a wide range of acceptability and that value is ok. It does require more dosing of particular ions, such as magnesium or calcium to keep them in reasonable ranges.

If you do decide to raise it, do so slowly. What I’ve done is replace my top off water with salt water and it will slowly raise the salinity in the take over a few days

Thanks for the information.

1.024-1.025 my preferred range and similar to natural sea water

Similar, but lower. Sg = 1.0264 exactly matches average natural ocean water.

As an example of what that means, magnesium in natural seawater at sg = 1.024 will only be 1164 ppm. Calcium will only be 382 ppm. Would you use those targets?

Just keep in mind that running the tank at 1.024 it’s not just a lower salinity, it will also mean lower everything else such as ph, magnesium, calcium, alkalinity etc

And the cost of even BRS three part to bring cal mag and ALK up for water changes gets expensive .
