Hey all, I have a 90 g, been set up 4 months now. I started out with IO reef crystals. I am almost out and need to get more, so thinking about switching salts. It works fine, but the residue is just yucky. So I am looking at either Red Sea blue bucket, or Tropic Marin Pro. Any thoughts or experiences would be greatly appriciated.

for sure you need to ramp your lighting up as if it's new when the new salt hits, or in relation to the % of new salt in you're changing out with over time

always use lesser lighting power during water brand change events, this is how to ride over parameter switches without bleaching and tissue loss events due to sunburning

The only beings in there right now are several different fish, a cleaner shrimp and several cerith snails. I do a 20% water change every 2 weeks. Do I still need to up the lighting?

I think he meant turn the lights down a tad.

How do you know the new salt won't leave a residue?

Just saying. IO is used by many pros.

That is a solid question. I don't. I am just going off of reviews, and recommendations from friends.

IO does not leave residue like RC does. I use RC when it is cheap, but normally use IO. I add acid to the RC to lower the alk and the residue never forms... not hard, but many have no interest.
