Currently I am using Reef Crystals for my AWC and it lasts about 2 weeks while making about 12-14 gallons of phytoplankton a week. Issue is that it leaves a brown residue in the brute trashcan.

I have been thinking of switching to Tropic Marin Pro salt that is about 45% more per gallon (Reef crystals - $0.4274 per gallon vs Tropic Marin Pro - $0.6317 per gallon) and my question is the extra cost worth not really ever having to clean SW reservoir since TM Pro mixes so clear and doesn't leave reside in your opinion?

According to AI, you might want to switch to Instant Ocean? :

    • Price: Instant Ocean is generally slightly more affordable than the enriched Reef Crystals. [1]
    • Residue: Some hobbyists in forum communities like Reef2Reef note that Reef Crystals can sometimes leave a bit more of a film or brown residue in mixing buckets than the standard Instant Ocean.

IF the residue bug you, the money may be your best marine mix solution 😇

That brown residue is the anti cacking agent they use to keep it from clumping up. I've heard its clay, shouldn't cause any issues aside from occasional cleaning
