I have a couple of adult gold dust mollies that I’ve acclimated to saltwater. They’ve had fry which were born in saltwater which are doing great. They’ve been growing in size, and it’s my intention to keep them in my sump.

My question is, will they eventually wipe out my pod population? I know they love algae but in the sump (and the display for that matter) I don’t have much GHA. I have grape caulerpa and chaeto but I know they won’t touch those.

Even if they were capable of wiping out my pod population I’ll supplement pods as often as necessary.

I’d put the adults in the display tank if not for the high flow environment. They’re beautiful fish and they’re the color of amber. They look like they could be reef fish!

Five of the fry have survived thus far. I was only able to retrieve eight when they were born a month ago. The fry have more than doubled in size since then, and may actually be triple the size they were when they were born. With the adults there would be eight altogether. I want to keep a small population, while allowing the rest to be live food for the reef.

It will be interesting to see what others say, but it would seem unlikely that they will wipe out the pod populations but they could certainly pare it back.

I have black mollies with pods and the mollies eat the same film algae as the pods.

I got 3 platinum ones in my reef they don't mind the flow too much

Four mollies and a group of guppies in my refugium. Still full of all kinds of pods. Mine sit around waiting for flakes. lol

I keep a little wave make in my fuge and I made a little mesh riser for the right side of my fuge. So the fry flow right out before they get munched up
