I have a couple of adult gold dust mollies that I’ve acclimated to saltwater. They’ve had fry which were born in saltwater which are doing great. They’ve been growing in size, and it’s my intention to keep them in my sump.
My question is, will they eventually wipe out my pod population? I know they love algae but in the sump (and the display for that matter) I don’t have much GHA. I have grape caulerpa and chaeto but I know they won’t touch those.
Even if they were capable of wiping out my pod population I’ll supplement pods as often as necessary.
I’d put the adults in the display tank if not for the high flow environment. They’re beautiful fish and they’re the color of amber. They look like they could be reef fish!
Five of the fry have survived thus far. I was only able to retrieve eight when they were born a month ago. The fry have more than doubled in size since then, and may actually be triple the size they were when they were born. With the adults there would be eight altogether. I want to keep a small population, while allowing the rest to be live food for the reef.
