I got a couple mollies from my lfs converted to saltwater, one was pregnant. She had the babies , the male ate 3 of them. Got his swim bladder messed up , floated around my tank all day, until my wife grabbed him and threw him in my sump in the basement. He threw up 3 babies and they have been living in the return section for a week or two now. Couple of questions. Is this going to keep happening, or can they only get pregnant in freshwater? I plan to give them to my brother in law. How soon can they go in his tank. Are they sensitive to water parameter changes this young? And I've just been feeding them pellets every other day? I think they are more surviving on sump mulm and pods. Is that ok? How many do they usually birth? Is it normally around 3 or did we loose some to my wrasses?

Is your brother in laws tank saltwater too? It’ll be hard to convert them back to freshwater from my own experience with SW mollies. All my conversion didnt make it back to FW. They’ll continue to breed in SW. i had many generations in SE once i converted them.

Yea, it's saltwater. I just didn't know if I could move them this young to a different tank

Bump, my specific remaining question. Is can these 3 baby fish that are 2 weeks old be moved to another system about 15 min away. Same salinity.

It's to be expected that your mollies are having the babies in a saltwater aquarium, but they can, after a slow introduction to the change, have babies in a brackish or fully saline environment The babies can then be transferred to your brother-in-law's aquarium once the conditions are normalized in there for salinity, though they should be introduced at a slow pace to prevent shock. for accelerated growth, baby brine shrimp or crushed fry food can be added as supplements to the diet.

I know it’s not Mollies but I converted guppies to saltwater and they have been breeding like crazy . They handle flow pretty well and they constantly pick on the rock and glass . The babies are growing up fine with nothing extra for food .

My set of SW mollies in my frag tank recently gave birth to a set of 4 babies and are thriving just fine eating the micro algae and Reef Jerky powder that I broadcast feed both corals and fish.

Mine took the "elevator" up and down a couple times. All ended up back in the sump just eating whatever and now they are too big to get into the pump. My females pregnant again so I'll probably move them up if the new babies make it down to the sump. They seemingly take care of themselves.
