We are in the middle of rebuilding our tank. After having our mixed reef tank running for 2 years, we had a pest come in that killed every SPS we had within a matter of about a week. Then after that slowly more and more coral ended up dying despite our best efforts. So we decided to just start over from scratch. Broke the tank down, stripped everything out, got a new sump, new plumbing, and moved the fish into 2 separate quarantine tanks for the time being.

Was curious if anyone has ever done a partial sand/bare bottom tank? We have a melanurus wrasse that obviously needs a sand bed but was wondering if we made a bed for him in like the back part of the tank and left the rest bare, would that be sufficient?
